The Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps #311 is a classic card in the sports memorabilia industry. The other day that card got me thinking. Did you ever notice many other notable cards that have the number 311 slapped on the back? Here is a short list of just a few:
Ben Roethlisberger 2004 Topps RC #311
Michael Vick 2001 Topps RC #311
David Carr 2002 Topps RC #311
Carson Palmer 2003 Topps RC #311
Sparky Lyle 1969 Topps RC #311
Isaac Bruce 1994 Playoff RC #311
Jamal Lewis 2000 Quantum Leaf RC #311
Evan Longoria 2008 Upper Deck Timeline RC #311
Collectors have lost interest in players such as Vick and Carr because they haven’t turned out the way they thought they would, but at the time of production those would have been key cards to obtain. It almost seems like card manufacturers make card #311 in their sets of popular players. Could this be due to the popularity of the ‘52 Mantle? No other card #311 reaches the value of the Mantle, but perhaps card companies are trying to instill the memory of the ‘52 Mantle into newer sets.
FYI – did you know that if you add the numbers 3 + 1 + 1 you get 5, which is the total number of players inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame back in 1936. Also, card number 311 in the 1951 Bowman set features another “Mickey”, but not Mantle. Instead it features Mickey Harris. Could there be a card conspiracy with the #311?

There are two towers. Two minus one is one. One and one – eleven. Two minus one is one. One one. And there are nine members on Silverstein’s board of directors – that’s nine one one – 911. Two minus one plus 911… and you get twelve. Which leads us all to the master mind of the attacks… KYLE… Twelve contains the numbers one and two just like the toilet yesterday where somebody went number two instead of number one. Add one and two with 911 and you get 914. Drop the four and it is 91. Exactly the score Kyle got on his spelling test twelve days after 9/11
good one
