This morning Topps released some new info on 2010 Topps Chrome Baseball. Topps has created a new wrapper redemption program where for every 24 (Hobby) wrappers sent in, the collector will receive a special pack of Topps Chrome Rookies & Legends variation cards. Every tenth pack will contain special refractor versions. Each pack will contain 3 cards. Check out the checklist:
- Jason Heyward
- Austin Jackson
- Stephen Strasburg
- Mike Leake
- Buster Posey
- Starlin Castro
- Ike Davis
- Carlos Santana
- Mike Stanton
- Tyler Colvin
- Babe Ruth
- Lou Gehrig
- Jackie Robinson
- Ty Cobb
- Mickey Mantle
I have a little bone to pick with Topps Chrome Baseball. I just don’t think The Hobby needs it. If it contained “First Year” cards I could see the need for it, but many “Rookies” in this product have had earlier cards made already. I can see the need for Bowman and Bowman Chrome, but not a Topps set and a Topps Chrome set.

The hobby could have used it this summer, when it seemed like nothing came out between Topps Series II & the T206 cards.
I still think all the Chrome cards should be used as inserts in the regular Topps & Bowman sets if we’re going to have them at all, but I’m somewhat old-fashioned.
