Flashback Product of the Week: 2002-2003 UD Superstars

In 2002 Upper Deck created a product called Superstars that featured cards of athletes from five different sports: basketball, baseball, hockey, football, and golf.  Every box contained 24 packs and at least one relic card on average.  The only reason I can think of why this product didn’t catch on was because it only contained one hit per box, unlike the multi-sport products of today like Sports Legends and Americana.  I opened a box of this stuff and pulled a Joey Harrington / Steve Yzerman Dual Jersey.  Superstars does have a small portion of cut signatures numbered to 1, but there is one card in particular that stands out.  That would be the Michael Jordan / Tiger Woods Dual Auto Jersey numbered to 25.  This has to be one of the coolest cards ever made.  Boxes of Superstars can be picked up for about $50.00 today.

  1. This is one of my favorite products of all time. The Keys to the Ciy inserts were great. I think becasue product suffered due of constant player movement through free agency. Making cool cards like Keys to the City, quickly obsolete.

Still working on a Master set of this though

  2. I loved this product. I even have the jordan/tiger auto number 23/25. I agree that the movement of players has changed even the jersey cards. The rookie cards were very nice having baseball/basketball.

    • I know this is late, but i have the Michael Jordan/Tiger Woods Dual Auto Legendary Leaders card #01/25.

Pulled it out of the one and only box I bought.
