Topps Tribute Is Back

Topps Tribute has always been one of those hit or miss products.  About 90% of those collectors that tried a pack probably weren’t too happy with what they pulled considering what they paid for a pack (around $50.00).  Topps Tribute has been out of the game for 5 years but will be returning this November.  Each box will contain 6 packs and each pack will contain one autograph or relic.  This version of Tribute will contain current and retired/HOF players.  I’ve always enjoyed the design of these cards and I’m glad to see they’re making a comeback.  The only downside I see right now is that most of the autographed cards contain stickers, except for the cut signatures.  Past Topps Tribute products have contained on-card signatures.  I really look forward to giving this product a try.

P.S.

The last time I ripped a pack of Topps Tribute was back in January of 2004.  It was my regular weekend trip to my local card shop.  Arriving home I sat down at the kitchen table, opened my pack of ’04 Topps Tribute Cut Signature Edition and pulled the most valuable card I’ve ever pulled from a pack.

The last time I opened a pack of Topps Tribute I pulled this Willie Mays Cut Signature #’ed 1/1.  You don’t see many Mays autographs that look like this.  Many people believe that this signature is from an earlier part of his career.  I’ll have to give the new ’09 version a try.  Maybe I’ll get lucky again.

  1. Yeah they’re nice but an auto or relic per pack. Who’s to say the whole box is not all relics? I’d be a little upset at that considering how some of Topps coalitions have been lately.
