2010 Press Pass Eclipse Box Break & Review

Design: Photobucket

I like the design of the 90-card base set.  This is Press Pass’s first attempt at making a textured painted product.  Not only does the base set look painted, but the texture of the card feels like a piece of canvas.  Its too bad the the painted theme stops with the base set.  The inserts, relics, and autographs I pulled seem to go off into their own little world.  The design of the autographs and relics I pulled look like they could be placed in other products too.  There isn’t anything special on them saying they came from 2010 Eclipse.  It wouldn’t surprise me if you find them, especially the autographs, in later products.  Last year’s Eclipse had a “space” theme, and you could easily see that throughout the entire product.

Price: Photobucket

Boxes are currently selling for $110.00 a piece.  I’m glad to see Press Pass is including an extra hit or two with products that contain 24 packs, but from what I pulled there wouldn’t be too much on the resale side.  You could spend less on other racing products and pull the same, if not better pulls.

Hit Quality: Photobucket

Yes, you do get 4 hits which is more than what they have been including with products that contain this many packs.  You do have the chance of pulling some great patches and autographs, but your most likely going to get high numbered tire and car cover relics.  Collectors are meant to put all the letters from one driver together in order to spell their last name.  Its a cool concept that has been done before, and at least Press Pass includes actual relics instead of manufactured letters.  I also would have liked to see the painted theme carry over to the hits as well.  Here are the notable hits I pulled:

  • Danica Patrick base #27
  • Danica Patrick Gold #27
  • Mike Skinner Blue Ink Auto
  • Joey Logano Race-Used Tire #’ed/299
  • Jimmie Johnson Race-Used Tire #’ed/250
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr Race-Used Tire #’ed/250

Overall: Photobucket

Overall, I give 2010 Press Pass Eclipse a good 2 out of 5 paintbrushes (1=poor & 5=perfect).  The base set looks great with the textured painted theme, but I would have liked it to carry over into the inserts and hits.  You do get 4 hits, but they will most likely be high numbered tire and car cover cards.
