Flashback Product of the Week: 1991 Upper Deck Comic Ball Series 1

In 1991 Upper Deck was flying high after it’s success with their ’89 & ’90 baseball sets.  I have no idea what they were smoking when they came up with the idea for their Comic Ball Series of trading cards.  In 1991 Upper Deck released Comic Ball Series 1 which teamed up popular baseball players with Looney Tunes characters.  Comic Ball had very little success, but Upper Deck kept making it for a few years despite how unpopular they were.  At this point in The Hobby, holograms were the big “hits” and you could find them randomly inserted into Comic Ball products.  Today, you can find sealed hobby boxes for $10.00 and singles sell for only a few pennies.
