Cards educating collectors on the history of The Hobby is one of my favorite things Topps has done with some of their past releases. 2011 Topps Baseball Series 1 has an excellent 10-card set that provides collectors with the history of the Topps Company. I’m glad to see Topps is reading Sports Card Info. The set includes the following:
- #1 – Topps is founded by the Shorin family
- #2 – 1951 – First cards are sold
- #3 – 1952 – Sy Berger creates the first complete set
- #4 – 1957 – Topps sets the card size standard
- #5 – 1972 – Topps goes public
- #6 – 1974 – First Topps Traded set
- #7 – 1989 – Topps reintroduces Bowman
- #8 – 1994 – Topps moves from Brooklyn to NYC
- #9 – 2007 – Eisner & Co. buy in to Topps
- #10 – 2009 – Topps receives MLB exclusive
I also picked-up this 2010 Topps – Tales of the Game insert that talks about how Topps dumped excess ’52 Topps cards into the Hudson River.
