2011-2012 ITG Captain C Box Break & Review

Design: Photobucket

This is the first ITG product I’ve opened where the base set has a foil-based design.  I like it!  It doesn’t have the usual foil look we are all use to seeing.  Very shiny and sparkly!  If your going to make a set using foil, I think this is the way to do it.  The only bad thing about foil is that it can start to peel.  None of the cards I pulled are doing that, and I doubt many from this product will.  The quality it quite high.  Once again, ITG used those sticker autographs that you can barely tell are actual stickers.  The autographs really look as if they are on-card.

Price: Photobucket

Boxes are currently selling for $95.00.

“Hit” Quality: Photobucket

11-12 ITG Captain C has some great looking “hits” from some of hockey’s best team captains.  Each box contains (10) cards – (5) base and (5) autographs and/or memorabilia cards.  I pulled the following:

Autos

  •  Barry Beck Captain C Auto Silver Version
  • Trevor Linden Captain C Auto Silver Version
Relics
  • Tony Amonte Captain C Stick And Jersey – Stick & Jersey relic Silver Version
  • Ryan Getzlaf Captain C Silver Jersey relic
  • Chris Terry Captain C Junior Captains 3-Color Jersey relic Silver Version
Parallels
  • Keith Tkachuk Gold #45
  • Vincent Lecavalier Gold #95
Base
  • Doug Harvey #27
  • Milt Schmidt #54
  • Gordie Howe #55
Overall: Photobucket
Overall, I give 11-12 ITG Captain C 4 zambonis out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect).  The base set looks cool and so do many of the unique relics.  The only drawback to having a product based on captains or any specific player or position is that it can limit the amount of collectors it can appeal to.  According to ITG, Captain C is currently sold out.

  1. Any chance I could swing a deal for the Getzlaf? He’s the main guy I collect when it comes to hockey.

  2. ITG continues to churn out horrible product, poor design and overpriced for what you get in return. Big deal with foil, like hello the telephone has been invented also.

The sold out routine is old, every product in the history of hockey cards is sold out, but gauranteed you’ll be able to find Captain C in a dust bowl at your local LCS in 2015.
