Design:
Considering there aren’t any MLB logos, the design isn’t all that bad. I think Panini’s non-licensed baseball products are slightly getting better. The “Draft Hits” on-card signatures are very nice looking. Unlike other Panini products that feature on-card autographs, the “Draft Hits” cards do not have the famous white box. Recently Panini has become known for placing white boxes on hard-signed cards. I don’t have a problem with a white background for the signature area, but it doesn’t look good when its placed in the middle of a color photo. Panini totally avoided this when it came to the “Draft Hits” autographs. Some of the other autographs in the set feature the white box though, plus sticker autographs.
Price:
Boxes are currently selling for around $100.00. It seems a little expensive to me.
“Hit” Quality:
Each box should contain (3) “hits”. I like the fact that Panini decided to include game-used glove and batting helmet relics. Those are two types of relics you don’t see all the time. I pulled the following:
Autos
- Ronald Guzman International Flair Auto #’ed/499
- Elvis Andrus Auto #’ed/299
- Ryne Sandberg Limited Gamers Game-Used Glove #’ed/67
- Andrew Susac Draft Hits #7 #’ed/199
- Matt Vogel USA Baseball #62 #’ed/199
- Clayton Kershaw #8 #’ed/249
- Mike Walker Prospects #36 #’ed/249
Overall:
Overall, I give 2011 Panini Limited Baseball 3 baseballs out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect). The on-card “Draft Hits” autographs are a nice touch. White boxes still haunt some of their cards. The inclusion of gloves and batting helmets was a good idea.
If you think you’ve seen that baseball design on the front of 2011 Panini Limited before, you have. It was used on some of the Limited Cuts borders.
