2011-12 Panini Past & Present Basketball Box Break & Review

Design: Photobucket

The design has an old school look with today’s appeal.  On the Bread for Life, Bread for Energy, and Bread for Health cards, the images look a little blurry.  It almost reminds me of what a picture would look like if you used a dot matrix printer, but I’m taking that as a vintage look.  The Fireworks cards look really cool, even though I don’t see actual fireworks like you would see on the 4th of July.  Instead you see the athlete engulfed in a fireball like setting.  The Fireworks cards have a neat effect when you reflect light off of them.  Try it!

Price: Photobucket

Boxes are currently selling for $100.00.

“Hit” Quality: Photobucket

For a product geared towards set collectors, having at least (4) “hits” is a nice thing.  I pulled the following:

  • Bo Outlaw Elusive Ink Auto
  • Otis Birdsong Elusive Auto
  • 2011 Draft Pick Autograph Redemption XRCP
  • Al Horford Gamers Jersey
  • Magic Johnson #30
Bread for Life
  • Magic Johnson #18
Bread for Health
  • Amar’e Stoudemire #47
  • Luol Deng #14
  • Steve Nash #40
  • Anderson Varejao #50
Bread for Energy
  • Andrea Bargnani #4
  • Carmelo Anthony #1
  • Mario Chalmers #8
  • Wesley Matthews #18
  • Brandon Jennings #5
  • Ricky Rubio #30
  • Eric Bledsoe #24
  • Chris Paul #19
  • Dwight Howard #5
Changing Times
  • Marc Gasol #29
  • Dirk Nowitzki #26
  • Oscar Robertson #2
  • George Mikan #8
Raining 3’s
  • Robert Horry #16
  • Steve Nash #14
  • LeBron James #9

Overall: Photobucket

Overall, I give 2011-12 Panini Past & Present 3.5 basketballs out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect).  This is one of the better “set collecting” products Panini has released.  The Elusive Ink autographs contain a lot of players that have never had an autographed card before, or have not had one in a long time.
