2013 Press Pass Showcase Football Box Break & Review

Design:  photo 3football.jpg

For a non-licensed product with no college names or logos, I don’t think it looks too bad.  The best looking cards are the ones printed on acetate.  If the acetate autographs did contain college names and logos, I think they would look really good.  Unfortunately many of the inserts such as End Zone are covered in foil and have a large box smacked right in the middle of the card.  Your eyes go straight to the box.  Some of the jumbo patches look cool, but the player’s photo is so small I don’t think it was even worth trying to squeeze it on.  You can’t compare the design of a product such as this with the licensed stuff that’s out there.  It would just be suicide.

2013 Showcase is probably Press Pass’s most high-end football product.  Every box has (6) on-card autographs and (1) relic.

I pulled the following:

  • EJ Manuel Red Ink #’ed/99
  • Terrance Williams Blue Ink #’ed/10
  • Johnathan Franklin Blue Ink #’ed/186
  • Ryan Swope Blue Ink #’ed/199
  • Cobi Hamilton Red Ink #’ed/50
  • Ezekiel Ansah Blue Ink #’ed/149

  • Mike Glennon Gameday Threads Jersey

Overall:  photo 3football.jpg

Overall, I give 2013 Press Pass Showcase a generous 3 footballs out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect).  The best part are the acetate autographs that cover a majority of the product.  The big boxes and foil really bring it down.  By this time of the year, the officially licensed products are starting to roll out which make it difficult for something like this to have a long lifespan.  This isn’t the last non-licensed football product Press Pass plans to release either.  2013 Gameday Gallery comes out next month.  Collectors must be buying it though, because Press Pass wouldn’t make it.  You have to give them credit for wanting to be in the football card market so much.
