2015 Topps Heritage ’51 Collection Baseball Box Break & Review

Just from a configuration standpoint, this product sticks out to me.  2015 Topps Heritage ’51 Collection Baseball is a nod to the first baseball set that Topps produced.  The 1951 Topps Red/Blue Backs set is one of the most underrated baseball sets in history.  For being the first full-fledged baseball set from Topps, the cards are quite affordable compared to later released sets.  The main reason for this is most likely because those cards are thought to be more like game pieces than actual cards.  The game you were suppose to use the cards for never really caught on.  Game pieces or not, they’re the first baseball cards made by Topps, and they deserve a lot more attention.  I think they get overshadowed by the extremely popular 1952 Topps Baseball set.

I think Topps should configure a lot more of their products targeted towards set collectors like this.  Every box comes with the full 104-card base set.  You also get (21) mini parallels, plus (1) autograph.  This type of configuration favors both set collectors and those looking for a quite thrill without having to open tons of packs looking for that “hit”.  Its the best of both worlds.  The only thing I would like to see added are some photo variations.  From what I can see, all of the autographs are on-card too.  The autograph checklist is quite small, but packed with a bunch of stars.  The odds of you pulling someone good is in your favor.  Autograph parallels include – Blue Back #’ed/25, Green Back #’ed/10, Black Back #’ed/5, and Gold Back #’ed/1.

I sure wouldn’t mind seeing Topps configure some of their other set based products like this.  Although I highly doubt it will happen.  Many set collectors like the chase and don’t want everything handed to them in one box.  But I enjoy it.  You still have the mini parallels to chase.  Depending on the player, those Gold mini parallels that come (1) to a box can bring in some hefty prices.

Here is what I pulled:
