2021 Topps Finest Baseball Hobby Box Break & Review

Collector Type: Autograph/Refractor Fans

What would the hobby look like without our beloved refractors? Probably pretty dull. Topps changed the card industry landscape when they introduced the refractor to collectors with 1993 Topps Finest Baseball. Today those early refractors from 1993 still command some insane prices. Nobody in 1993 would have thought those boxes would be worth upwards of $1,000 today.

I’ve been a big fan of the Topps Finest brand going all the way back to the beginning. Even through those years where the cards came with those peel-off covers (I never peeled them off).

A Master Hobby Box of 2021 Topps Finest Baseball consists of (2) mini-boxes. Each mini-box has (6) packs, and (1) autograph.

Opening a box of 2021 Topps Finest Baseball reminds me of a bag of M&M’S. Lots of color! The amount of refractors nearly doubled compared to previous years. For those of you who enjoy building rainbows of your favorite players it could take some serious time when it comes to this set.

(100) cards make up the Base Set. Parallels include Refractor, Sky Blue #’ed/300, Purple #’ed/250, Purple/Aqua Vapor #’ed/250, Aqua #’ed/199, Aqua Shimmer #’ed/175, Blue #’ed/150, Green Speckle #’ed/125, Green #’ed/99, Rose Gold #’ed/75, Rose Gold Mini-Diamond #’ed/50, Gold #’ed/50, Orange #’ed/25, Red #’ed/5, Purple/Pink Vapor #’ed/3, and SuperFractor #’ed 1/1.

(25) cards #101-#125 consist of the Extended Base Set. I like to think of them as Short Prints. Parallels include Gold #’ed/50, Red #’ed/5, and SuperFractor #’ed 1/1.

(20) cards which fall 1:12 packs make up the Finest Rookies Design Variation set. In my opinion, these really aren’t variations of the base counterpart. Traditionally a variation contains the same card number as the base. That isn’t the case here. Instead the card numbers resemble more of something you’ed see on an insert. An alternative background is the main visual difference when compared to the base version.

Autographs include Finest Autographs, Finest Mystery Redemption Autograph, Finest Rookies Design Variation Autographs, 1997 Topps Finest Masters Autographs, Finest Careers Die-Cut Autographs, Finest Legacies Autographs, Finest Moments Autographs, and Finest Originals Buyback Autographs.

Inserts include 1997 Topps Finest Masters, Finest Career Die-Cut, and Finest Legacies.

Members of the Topps 582 Montgomery Club greatly enjoy buying the limited edition counterparts to mainstream products. Despite not having any Sapphire parallels in the 2021 Topps Finest Baseball set, we most likely won’t be seeing a Topps Finest Sapphire Edition. Instead we should be seeing a follow-up to last year’s 2020 Topps Baseball’s Finest Flashbacks.
