On November 16, 2021 current members had the opportunity to renew their membership for 2022 for $300. New members had to pay $600.
In 2021 club members received some great deals on online-exclusive products such as 2020 Topps Chrome Garbage Pail Kids Sapphire Edition, 2019/20 Topps Chrome UEFA Champions League Sapphire Edition, and 2020 Topps Chrome Formula 1 Sapphire Edition. With a bunch more in between.
I see print runs and price increases for 2022. If Topps decides to bring back some of those products which people were able to flip for big profits on the secondary market last year, I don’t see those same products performing the same way. Topps will look at what last year’s boxes are currently selling for, and price the next round of products based on that. The next Topps Chrome Garbage Pail Kids Sapphire Edition won’t be $50 per box. The next Topps Chrome Formula 1 Sapphire Edition won’t be $99 per box. Prices will go up, and the profit margin to flip them will be down.
Topps could surprise us with some products that haven’t received the Sapphire treatment yet. Star Wars and WWE Sapphire Editions would be huge hits. That’s saying Topps can get the WWE Sapphire Edition out before Panini takes over the license.
The 2022 MLB rookie class is shaping up nicely. Wander Franco is leading the pack and will receive his first rookie card logo cards. Some other prospects have a chance of getting called up too. Product will be in demand. Maybe not as much as 2020 and 2021 due to inflation/lack of stimulus checks, but I renewed my membership so I can easily access the online-exclusive products.
After 2022 things will get interesting now that Fanatics plans to take over the card industry.
