“Pin-Up” of the Week: Pete Rose District 4L2 California Lions Club Pin

Batman vs. Joker.  Superman vs. Lex Luther.  Pete Rose vs. MLB.  These are three foes that will be against one another for the rest of time.

In my opinion, Pete Rose should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Sure he signed the documents agreeing to what Major League Baseball wanted to do.  Should have he and his lawyers read the paperwork better?  Absolutely.  But considering all the crap athletes get into today, betting on baseball doesn’t seem all that bad.

The district 4L2 Lions Club from California issued a seven pin set of athletes.  The set includes Mario Andretti, John McEnroe, Wayne Gretzky, Jack Nicklaus, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Pete Rose.  About 500 sets were produced. Why did the Lions Club make these?  Most likely they sold them as a fundraiser.  Lions Club pins can be quite collectible.

A set of seven pins was up for sale not too long ago with an asking price of $350.00.  It sold for an undisclosed amount.
