“Pin-Up” of the Week: 1996 Atlanta Olympics UPS Worldwide Pin

Photobucket

The hobby would be a crappy place if it weren’t for the USPS, UPS, and FedEx.  Collectors have been depending on these companies for years so they could get that one last card for their collection.  Distributors rely on them so they can get those boxes on their shelves.  Its always exciting to see a box sitting on your front porch.

This pin was made for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and as you can see UPS was a sponsor.  Its not worth a whole lot.  Just a couple of bucks.

Phillies vs. Braves – 7/9/2011

Even though the Phillies lost yesterday, this was one of the best games I’ve ever been too.  I sat right in front of Harry The K’s out in the outfield for the entire game.  Right behind Raul Ibanez.  I sure wasn’t expecting to see Cliff Lee hit his first career home run.  The place went totally nuts when he did.

I tried one of Citizens Bank Park’s grilled hot dogs along with some boardwalk fries.  Everything was extremely good, especially the hot dog bun.  I picked-up 8 new pins from the Majestic Clubhouse Store and a Phanatic lanyard to hang them on.  Did you know they make Phillies pool noodles?

Back From Vacation – Myrtle Beach Pelicans Photos

Last night I got home after an 11 hour drive back from Myrtle Beach, SC.  While I was there, I took a drive over to see BB&T Coastal Field where the Myrtle Beach Pelicans play.  They are the advanced single A team of the Atlanta Braves.  The only open area at the stadium was the gift shop, you couldn’t go inside to see the actual field.  Even though the gift shop was open, we had to go find someone to unlock it, since they don’t get many visitors during the winter.  I was able to pick up three pins, and a 2008 team set for my collection.  Later today I will break open the team set, and a blaster box of 2008 Upper Deck Timeline for you.  Here are a few photos I was able to take outside the stadium.  Greg Norman’s Australian Grille isn’t near the stadium, that was taken a few miles away.

What do the Braves and Tiger Woods have in common?

They both wear red shirts on Sundays.

The cost of overproduction – 1991 Topps Chipper Jones #333 RC

In economics, the term overproduction refers to an excess of supply over demand of products being offered to the market.  That is what happend in the mid-late 80’s to the early 90’s in the hobby.  During this time card manufacturers made products for every man, woman, and child around the world.  One of the best cards in the 1991 Topps baseball card set has to be the Chipper Jones #333 rookie.  Chipper is having a great year, currently batting .415 with 12 HR and 35 RBI’s.  You would think that a player doing that great would have a rookie card going through the roof.  Thats not the case here.  Even with Jones having such a great season his 1991 Topps #333 rookie won’t even sell for a $1.00 on eBay.  This is all because there were so many of them produced.  Jone’s most valuable rookies would be his 1991 Topps Desert Shield and 1991 Topps Tiffany.
