Upper Deck’s Co-Founder Richard McWilliam Passes Away
Every industry has its major players. When it comes to the sports card industry, Richard McWilliam was one of those major players. Upper Deck began to make its dent in the industry with the release of 1989 Upper Deck Baseball. The set revolutionized the industry with its premium card stock and anti-counterfeiting design. Not only that, but card #1 in the set is Ken Griffey, Jr’s most popular rookie. Upper Deck quickly went on to produce some of the industry’s first autographed and memorabilia cards all taking design into consideration. All major players take heat from time to time, but then again who doesn’t. McWilliam sure took his amount of heat covering various topics. Lets face it, sports cards probably wouldn’t be where they are today without McWilliam’s input.
He’s probably up there right now organizing an autograph signing with Babe Ruth, Wilt Chamberlain, Lord Stanley, and Jim Thorpe.
R.I.P. Richard McWilliam

Looking For A Good Laugh? Check Out Coach’s Corner
Its been over a year since I wrote about Coach’s Corner auctions, but I think its my duty as a blogger to keep reminding people of all the fake crap that floods our beloved hobby. I was just watching a video of a product being opened, and to the right I saw an ad for Coach’s Corner. This auction site is filled with one counterfeit item after another. I seriously don’t see how they are allowed to stay in business. I would say that 99.9% of all the COA’s that come with their signatures are totally bogus. Its a great place for people to pickup fake junk to take to a show and pass off as the real thing. I just don’t understand why people don’t question things like this. Instead they move along like mindless little robots believing whatever they’re told.
When Babe Ruth autographed baseballs are only selling for $500.00, its a major red flag. This place just makes me so mad!!! Someone please shut them down!!!
This is total garbage!

Goodbye Harry
Today the Phillies lost one of their best. Long time broadcaster and 2002 Baseball HOF inductee Harry Kalas passed away at the age of 73. Harry Kalas will go down in history as one of baseball’s best broadcasters. Every year when baseball season would come around I looked forward to hearing his voice.
The last time I saw Mr. Kalas was in January at the Phillies Dinner for the Williamsport Crosscutters. The best part of the evening was when they would interview Harry and you could hear that iconic voice. I was one of the lucky people to get his autograph that night on my bat. This is one piece of memorabilia that will stay in my collection forever.
Harry Kalas’s best certified autograph card is from 2005 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic. This is one card I would like to add to my collection someday.
This is a recent photo of Mr. Kalas at the Phillies Dinner last January.
I just picked this bobble head up a few weeks ago. I can’t believe that people are stealing my photo and using it for their auctions.

R.I.P Sammy Baugh 1914-2008
Sammy Baugh, who was the last surviving member of the 1963 Hall of Fame class, past away yesturday at the age of 94. Baugh was one of the best quarterbacks the NFL had ever seen. His 1948 Leaf rookie card is one of the most notable vintage football cards in the hobby.
