Flashback Product of the Week: 1992 Beach Sports Premiere Edition

Do you want to live the BEACH SPORTS lifestlye?  I know I sure do.

The 1992 Beach Sports Premiere Edition set consists of 100 cards covering various sports you can obviously play while at the beach – volleyball, surfing, skateboarding, and windsurfing.  For those collectors that decided to rip into a box of Beach Sports, the key cards to look for were the holograms and the Michael Irvin autograph.  That’s correct, Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin has an autographed card in a beach themed set.  The card doesn’t picture him in his Cowboys uniform scoring a big touchdown.  Instead it shows Irvin playing beach volleyball with a big signature on the back.  I guess for the most die-hard Cowboys or Irvin collector you’d have to have it.  Although I highly doubt its one that collectors look for a lot.

Needless to say, this product didn’t last long.  Its very difficult for sports like this to survive in a standalone product.  They do quite well when thrown into products like Allen & Ginter, Sportkings, and Goodwin Champions.  Boxes can easily be found for under $10.00.

For You Die Hard Tommy Hanson Collectors

For those die hard Tommy Hanson collectors (I know there are a ton of you out there) here is a card you may not be familiar with.  It comes from the 2008 Myrtle Beach Pelicans Team Set.  Most team issued minor league cards aren’t that desirable, but player collectors will hunt down anything if they have a hole in their collection.  Entire ’08 Pelicans Team Sets can be found for $12.00.  Right now there is only one team set up for sale on eBay.  I picked up my set last year when I visited the Pelicans stadium.  This morning I was looking through a few Hanson card checklists and I didn’t see this one on them.  The only minor league team issued card I found was from 2006.

Card of the Day: ’09 UD Piece of History Omaha Beach Sand Relic

This card seems to fit since its Veterans Day.  These cards can be found in packs of 2009 Upper Deck Piece of History and contain actual sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy France.

Back From Vacation – Myrtle Beach Pelicans Photos

Last night I got home after an 11 hour drive back from Myrtle Beach, SC.  While I was there, I took a drive over to see BB&T Coastal Field where the Myrtle Beach Pelicans play.  They are the advanced single A team of the Atlanta Braves.  The only open area at the stadium was the gift shop, you couldn’t go inside to see the actual field.  Even though the gift shop was open, we had to go find someone to unlock it, since they don’t get many visitors during the winter.  I was able to pick up three pins, and a 2008 team set for my collection.  Later today I will break open the team set, and a blaster box of 2008 Upper Deck Timeline for you.  Here are a few photos I was able to take outside the stadium.  Greg Norman’s Australian Grille isn’t near the stadium, that was taken a few miles away.
