Barnstormers vs. Skeeters – Bobbleheads, Tracy McGrady, & Alpacas

Baseball, bobbleheads, alpacas, and Tracy McGrady.  This sounds like the opening scene to The Hangover.  Oh no.  Its happened again!

The Lancaster Barnstormers are celebrating their 10th season this year.  On Saturday, May 31st, they were taking on the Sugar Land Skeeters.  The Barnstormers won 5-3.  Picked myself up a new 10th anniversary t-shirt, plus a lanyard.  I’m not scheduled to attend anymore minor league games until the end of August.  The State College Spikes are giving away a bobblehead of James Franklin on 8/28.  Then the Williamsport Crosscutters are having an Andrew McCutchen bobblehead night on 8/29.  Back-to-back bobblehead nights!

The first 1,000 fans through the gate received a bobblehead of J.P. McCaskey.  The Barnstormers are known for making bobbleheads of historic figures from Lancaster.

7x NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady retired from basketball last year, but signed a deal to pitch for the Sugar Land Skeeters.  He was in the house, but not scheduled to pitch.

Anyone remember Phillies prospect Greg Golson?  I think I still have an autograph of his from ’04 Bowman Chrome.  He’s bounced around from a bunch of teams, and is currently playing for Lancaster.

For some crazy reason there were two alpacas outside the stadium.

Harrisburg Senators vs. Binghamton Mets – 8/4/13

Sunday afternoon was a great day to watch the Harrisburg Senators take on the Binghamton Mets.  The Mets started the game with a lead off triple, and their momentum sure didn’t stop.  In the end, the Senators lost 6-0.  These were probably some of the best seats we’ve ever had for taking photos.  Its great to be behind home plate, but the net would always get in the way.  Down third baseline was much better.  It was Drew Storen bobblehead day, and I picked up four new pins for my collection.

I will say this.  The Senators serve the best tasting soft pretzels.

Senators 1B Justin Bloxom at bat.  Bloxom has 58 RBIs this season and has cards in 2010 Topps Pro Debut and 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition.

Rascal stopped by while I was watching the game.  As you can see, I was wearing my 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention shirt and an official Sports Card Album hat.  I sorta felt like that clip from Wayne’s World…haha!

Bryce Harper Harrisburg Senators Bobblehead Is Here!

If you recall, last weekend I went to see the Harrisburg Senators play the New Britain Rock Cats.  It was suppose to be Bryce Harper bobblehead night, but they didn’t arrive on time.  Starting today you could pick them up if you were one of the first 1,000 fans through the gate and received a voucher.  Looks pretty cool!!!

Hershey Bears vs. Charlotte Checkers – Bobblehead Night!

Yesterday evening I headed to the Giant Center to see the Hershey Bears take on the Charlotte Checkers.  The Bears won the game 2-1 scoring two goals in the 3rd period.  The Bears are associated with the Washington Capitals and the Checkers are associated with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Everblades.

Before the game started, the Bears President-GM Doug Yingst had a special announcement to make.  Next year will be the Hershey Bears 75th anniversary.  To celebrate this giant occasion, on January 20th, 2013, the Bears will take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in an outdoor game much like the Winter Classic we have witnessed over the last couple of years.  The game will be played in Hersheypark Stadium.

Its been a long time since I attended a hockey game.  This was my first time at the Giant Center.  I highly recommend the pretzels.  They aren’t those hard things you normally would find at a sporting event.  The pretzel I had was warm and soft.  I believe it was handmade right on the spot.

The first 5,000 fans that attended the game last night received Keith Aucoin bobbleheads.  This bobblehead features Aucoin in a home jersey.  They did make some rarer ones that have him in an away jersey, but you had to do something special to get your hands on one of those.

The Bears booster club was selling a ton of pucks they got signed.  For a couple of bucks I picked up this Chris Bourque autograph.  Bourque currently plays LW for the Bears.  His father, Ray Bourque, played for the Boston Bruins and went into the HOF in 2004.  I also picked up a new pin for my collection.

Bobblehead Mailday!

I had to have one…

Introducing The HK Talking Bobblehead

On 5/16/11 the Lehigh Valley IronPigs will be giving away a talking Harry Kalas bobblehead.  Push the talk button once to hear him make a call, and push twice to hear him say “I’m hog wild about IronPigs baseball.”  This is beyond awesome!!!  I will be adding one of these to my collection.  This will be Kalas’s third bobblehead.  I highly doubt there will ever be another stadium giveaway as cool as this.

HK Bobble Finds A New Home

I added a new bobblehead to my growing collection today.  Its of Harry Kalas, and was a stadium giveaway on 8/22/10 from the Wilmington Blue Rocks.  Its already fitting in nice on the shelf next to my Kalas/Ashburn dual bobblehead and all three Kalas Upper Deck Sweet Spot autographs.

New HK Bobblehead Hits The Market

Last Sunday, the Wilmington Blue Rocks gave out a new Harry Kalas bobblehead to the first 1,000 fans through the gate.  Before this, Kalas’s only bobblehead came from a stadium giveaway in 2002 and also contained Richie Ashburn.  Many of you know how much an HK fan I am, and I have a feeling one of these will be reaching my shelf soon.  Although its not quite as popular as the one featuring HK and Whitey, they seem to sell for $25.00 to $45.00.

PHOTOS: Lancaster Barnstormers vs. Somerset Patriots

Photobucket

Last night I took a drive down to Lancaster to see the Barnstormers take on the Somerset Patriots.  As you can see, Lancaster lost 3-2.  Clipper Magazine Stadium has to have the best food out of any stadium I’ve been to this summer.  I picked up a 2010 Team Set,’09 Update Set, and of coarse a new pin for my collection.  The first 1,500 fans 16 and older received a James Buchanan bobblehead.  Buchanan is the only Pennsylvania-born President and lived in Lancaster.

I have become a victim

After finishing 8hrs of doing Managerial Economics, I thought I would work with a few eBay payments I received in the mail and check my auctions.  Going through the mail I see I got paid for one of my “Boomer” Bobbleheads I received at the Williamsport Crosscutters game a few weeks ago.  Just out of pure curiosity I thought I would see if anyone else was selling the same bobblehead.  Checking the completed auctions I see a seller who stole my photo and used it for their own auction.  Here is their auction:

“Boomer” Bobblehead

Here is my auction:

“Boomer” Bobblehead

Its the same exact picture.  Plus, the smaller photo usually means that the original photo was small as well, perhaps the size of a photo from eBay.
