Phillies vs. Braves – 7/9/2011

Even though the Phillies lost yesterday, this was one of the best games I’ve ever been too.  I sat right in front of Harry The K’s out in the outfield for the entire game.  Right behind Raul Ibanez.  I sure wasn’t expecting to see Cliff Lee hit his first career home run.  The place went totally nuts when he did.

I tried one of Citizens Bank Park’s grilled hot dogs along with some boardwalk fries.  Everything was extremely good, especially the hot dog bun.  I picked-up 8 new pins from the Majestic Clubhouse Store and a Phanatic lanyard to hang them on.  Did you know they make Phillies pool noodles?

For You Die Hard Tommy Hanson Collectors

For those die hard Tommy Hanson collectors (I know there are a ton of you out there) here is a card you may not be familiar with.  It comes from the 2008 Myrtle Beach Pelicans Team Set.  Most team issued minor league cards aren’t that desirable, but player collectors will hunt down anything if they have a hole in their collection.  Entire ’08 Pelicans Team Sets can be found for $12.00.  Right now there is only one team set up for sale on eBay.  I picked up my set last year when I visited the Pelicans stadium.  This morning I was looking through a few Hanson card checklists and I didn’t see this one on them.  The only minor league team issued card I found was from 2006.

Hello Mr. Schafer

Well the Phillies lost their season opener last night to the Braves 4-1.  I guess my dream of them winning 162 games is out the window 🙂  The Phillies have lost 8 out of their last 9 season openers.  The Braves played really well and their rookie Jordan Schafer sure had a great game.  Schafer became the 99th player in MLB history to hit a homer during his first at bat.  As you can imagine his cards have started to really take off in price.  Before the game his stuff was selling well, but now its even better.  Schafer’s most popular prospect cards come from the already notable 2005 Bowman Chrome Draft set.  Recently he has been featured in Donruss’s 2008 Threads set.

Back From Vacation – Myrtle Beach Pelicans Photos

Last night I got home after an 11 hour drive back from Myrtle Beach, SC.  While I was there, I took a drive over to see BB&T Coastal Field where the Myrtle Beach Pelicans play.  They are the advanced single A team of the Atlanta Braves.  The only open area at the stadium was the gift shop, you couldn’t go inside to see the actual field.  Even though the gift shop was open, we had to go find someone to unlock it, since they don’t get many visitors during the winter.  I was able to pick up three pins, and a 2008 team set for my collection.  Later today I will break open the team set, and a blaster box of 2008 Upper Deck Timeline for you.  Here are a few photos I was able to take outside the stadium.  Greg Norman’s Australian Grille isn’t near the stadium, that was taken a few miles away.
