2016 Topps Bunt Box Break & Review

You have to admire the attention that digital card apps like Topps Bunt has brought to the hobby.  They can be very fun and addicting.  Ever since digital cards made their debut, the debate whether or not they’ll one day be the standard has been going on.  I think there is plenty of room in the hobby for both digital and physical cards.  Digital cards may offer more on the entertainment side, but I think physical cards will always come in first when it comes to actual collecting.

From a cost perspective, 2016 Topps Bunt is one of the most affordable products.  Hobby boxes sell for around $30.00.  For those set collectors on a budget, this product might be right for you.  Its simply designed and cheap.  With that being said, some of the inserts, parallels, and autographs can be really difficult to pull.  Autographs fall about 1:10,000 packs.  “Hits” are not the main reason why you buy this product though.  If you’re an active Topps Bunt app user, every box comes with a handful of code cards that you can use to redeem digital packs.  Some of the single cards have codes on the back that you can redeem for digital versions.  There were a few bumps with this in the beginning, but Topps seems to have smoothed things over.

The checklist is quite impressive and comes in at (200) cards.  It doesn’t focus heavily on one specific group.  You’ll find rookies, current stars, and Hall of Famers.  The overall design is nice and refreshing.  While opening my box, I almost missed the one parallel.  The serial number caught my eye before the actual color change on the card.  I really like the way the Light Force inserts came out, especially of the older players.

Topps has put a lot of time and money into their apps.  It makes perfect sense for a crossover product like this to be on the low-end of things.  You want to make this appeal to as many collectors as possible.  I look forward to seeing where Topps takes this from here.
