Consumer Probe: 1992-93 Case XX Racing Series Knives

No.  You’re not imagining anything.  This was a real product sold in stores.  What is it with racing fans and knives?  They seem to go hand in hand with each other.

A few different companies came together in order for this product to reach the shelves – Little River Knives, Case XX Racing Collectibles, and Maxx Racing.  From what I can find, at least three different sets were released between 1992 and 1993.  As you can clearly see, inside each package is a fully functioning folding pocket knife and an exclusive Maxx Racing card.  The cards come with red, blue, and black borders.  They also contain the Case XX Racing Collectibles logo in the corner.

I think we can all agree the most interesting thing here is the knife.  You just don’t see knives packaged with cards.  Its down right odd.  Each knife matches-up with the driver pictured on the card.  You’ll even find a facsimile signature engraved on the blade.  This has got to be one of Irwin Mainway’s products.

Anytime something is labeled “Collectors Edition” in this hobby the odds of it being worth anything are low.  All of these knives were massively overproduced and can easily be found today.  Most can be bought for $10 to $20 or less.  What they do have slightly going for them is the conversation piece factor.

Its ironic that you probably need a knife to get into the package.  No mystery here folks.  This product gets straight to the “point”.

Tristar To Provide Gift Bags As Case Breaking Pavilion Takes Center Stage At 35th National

It’s been awhile since I’ve opened a Tristar product.  I loved their OBAK sets they produced for a few years.  Now they seem to focus  more on wresting as far as cards go.

Below is a press release from Tristar that details their plans at the Case Break Pavilion which seems to be shaping up to be one hell of an addition to the show.

By now, it’s safe to say that the hobby phenomenon known as group case breaking isn’t going away anytime soon.  In fact it’s growing.  This important segment of the hobby will be featured center stage at the 35th National Sports Collectors Convention.  Cleveland’s I-X Center will be host to the hobby’s largest collaboration of case breakers ever seen in the hobby.  The inaugural Case Break Pavilion will be housed in a 12,000 sq. ft. arena, adjacent to the Corporate Pavilion and across from the Autograph Pavilion.

Horrors of War II 2013 NSCC Redemption Program

For all you history buffs attending the National, Famous Fabrics has something special for you.  Collectors opening a 10-box case of Horrors of War II at the Famous Fabrics booth will receive a coupon for a special 1/1 Art Relic card of their choice that will be made after the show.  Collectors can choose a personality they would like sketched on the card and Famous Fabrics will add an authentic relic from the corresponding conflict.  This promotion is another high-end one for collectors to take part in.  A 10-box case of Horrors of War II can run just over $2,000.00.

Sportkings Series E Case Hits Preview

Sportkings Series E is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2012.  Each box will contain (5) cards – (3) base (including random minis), (1) base (premium back), and (1) insert (this will be a relic or hard-signed autographed card).  Check out some of the following case hits you can find.  They include Spectacular Patches, Cut Signatures, and 1/1 Art-Cards by Sport Kings, LLC Lead Portrait Painter Jared Kelley.  Last week I interviewed Mr. Kelley about his artwork and involvement within the hobby.  The full checklist will be released on April 1, 2012.

Sportkings is the best multi-sport product on the market.  Other manufacturers produce multi-sport products, but Sportkings seems to be one of the best.  They really take their time to make a quality product.
