2019 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball Hobby Box Break & Review

Within the last couple of weeks Topps has released two products which are configured similarly.  The first being 2019 Topps Archives Signature Series Retired Player Edition and 2019 Topps Clearly Authentic.  If I were you, I’d spend the extra $10 on a box of Clearly Authentic.  After seeing the card I pulled from my box, and watching other breaks online, Clearly Authentic has been quite solid across the board.

At $56 per box its quite the gamble for just one card.  Then again, if all you’re doing this for is the money you’re not in this hobby for the right reason.  Its meant to be fun, not an investment tool.

Housed inside every box is (1) encased on-card autograph acetate card.  The product has a mix of current players, retired stars, and Hall of Famers.  All on classic card designs with an acetate twist.

I’ve had a lot of luck with this product.  Pulls from this product in the past include autographs of Don Mattingly and Jose Altuve.  This year certainly didn’t disappoint.

Its a quick-thrill with tons of rarities to find.  The Clearly Authentic brand is quickly becoming a popular release collectors look forward to.

2018 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball Box Break & Review

Topps introduced us to Clearly Authentic last year.  It quickly became one of my favorite new products, especially after pulling a Don Mattingly Rookie Reprint Auto.  Classic designs, on-card autographs, and acetate card stock can make for some interesting finds.

Housed inside every box of Clearly Authentic is (1) autographed card.  Boxes sell for $50-$60.  For the most part, the card you pull will feature the 2018 Topps flagship design along with a new image of that specific player.  Parallels of these include Green #’ed/99, Black #’ed/75, Red #’ed/50, Blue #’ed/25, Purple #’ed/10, Orange #’ed/5, and Gold #’ed 1/1.

Outside of the flagship design are Salute and MLB Awards.  Both of these have the same parallels as the base – Green #’ed/99, Black #’ed/75, Red #’ed/50, Blue #’ed/25, Purple #’ed/10, Orange #’ed/5, and Gold #’ed 1/1.

Case hits include 1993 Finest Stars, Reprints, and Legendary autographs.  All vary in serial numbering, but each have a Gold parallel #’ed 1/1.  The Reprints have really caught the eye of collectors, and are my personal favorite cards that you can pull.

I’ve noticed that boxes containing redemptions come with (2) autographs.  That certainly is a nice bonus.

Too many people bash products because what they pull might not get all of their money back.  You’re not thinking correctly if that’s all you want to do.  For some, picking up singles on the secondary market might work better.  Either way lots of collectors can enjoy this product.

2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Box Break & Review

I’m a risk taker.  Boxes with one card inside don’t frighten me.  In fact, this type of configuration is what I prefer.  If you’re a baseball collector and enjoy quick thrill products, 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic is probably right for you.

Once again Topps has tapped into their flagship brand design.  This time it comes with a massive twist.  Every card is printed on clear acetate.  On-card autographs are a big draw too.  When opening a box you have a few different options of cards that can be pulled.

(82) cards make up the main set and feature the 2017 Topps flagship look.  Photos of the players have been changed compared to the flagship set.  The base autographs aren’t serial numbered, but the parallels certainly are.  Parallels include Green #’ed/99, Red #’ed/50, Blue #’ed/25, and Gold #’ed/1.

Outside of the base set and it’s corresponding parallels, the only other type of card you can pull are the reprint autographs.  These are AWESOME!!!  You’ll find them 1:10 boxes which means two come per case.  The reprint autographs showcase classic Topps designs printed on acetate.  For the most part, this portion of the set is for retired stars and Hall of Famers.  But a few current players have been thrown in.  This is by far my favorite part of this product, especially when it comes to the rookie reprints.  All of the base versions of these cards have serial numbering that varies.  They also have Gold parallels #’ed/1.  Its entertaining to see how much more collectors are willing to spend on an acetate reprint autograph.  Rarer cards from other products in some cases don’t even come close to the price level of these cards.  That just goes to show you how important the design of a card really is.  Although it might not be as rare as another card, people will spend more for something that looks really cool.

Box prices are under $60.  I personally don’t have a problem with that.  Whenever you have a product with that type of pricing and there is a guaranteed autograph per box, you’re bound to find many common autographs.  That’s just how it goes.  Every single autograph looks great.  You can’t go wrong with an all on-card autograph acetate set.
