Hitting The Nail On The Head
When you think about it, Topps really hit the nail on the head when they made this 1980 Topps Larry Bird / Magic Johnson dual rookie card. Not only does this card have two Hall of Famers, but three. This isn’t Dr. J’s rookie, but he still adds value to it.
When you look back at some of the most famous multi-player rookie cards created by Topps, you will find a bunch of Hall of Famers but usually there is only one per card. Rarely will you find two rookies on one card that made it to the Hall of Fame. Some of the most popular multi-player rookie cards would include:
- 1963 Topps Stargell/Herrnstein/Davis/Gosger #553
- 1963 Topps Rose/Gonzalez/McMullen/Weis #537
- 1968 Topps Ryan/Koosman #177
- 1968 Topps Bench/Tompkins #247
- 1967 Topps Seaver/Denehy #581
- 1967 Topps Carew/Allen #569
- 1966 Topps Sutton/Singer #288
- 1965 Topps Carlton/Ackley #477
- 1966 Topps Jenkins/Sorrell #254
- 1965 Topps Hunter/Lockwood/Lachemann/Odom #526
- 1970 Topps Munson/McDonald #189
As you can see, the list can go on and on. All the cards on this list are baseball players, which makes it more amazing that two Hall of Fame rookies appear on this one basketball card. This card has to be one of the best basketball cards in history.
