Upper Deck’s 2014 National Plans: Promos, Exquisite Golf, & FREE Cake

Upper Deck may have been quiet when it came to their plans for the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention, but the silence is gone.  Upper Deck has fully unveiled what they have in store for collectors… and its a lot!

For a full run down on things, check out Upper Deck’s Blog.  But here are some of the things that stick out to me.  I’m going to do something I rarely do, and that’s copy and paste info from one blog to another 🙂  Upper Deck really says it best anyway.  One of these years I’d like to see Upper Deck make some National exclusive Precious Metal Gems parallels.  Its about time collectors see a high-end golf product like Exquisite.  I’m really looking forward to seeing what those cards look like.

Wednesday VIP Party – Upper Deck will help get the show started by making a special presentation at the Wednesday VIP Party to thank the company’s network of dealers in attendance at the show.  Fans in attendance will also score with a special 6-card VIP set produced exclusively for the National Sports Collectors Convention and they will also have the opportunity to win one of three sealed packs of the new 2014 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Golf!  Immediately after the VIP Party fans are invited to visit the Upper Deck booth for birthday cake to help celebrate Upper Deck’s 25th Anniversary and an incredible FREE giveaway you will not want to miss!

The Exquisite Case Break – On Friday at 2:00 p.m. fans in attendance will want to make their way to the Amazon.com Sports Collectibles Center Stage for an extremely special event.  Fans who are not at the show can watch through Upper Deck’s BreakersTV Channel.  Upper Deck will bring up two of the company’s Authorized Group Breakers to help out with this special event in Steel City Collectibles along with Dave & Adam’s Card World, but spots in the break will be absolutely FREE and awarded during a special raffle at the company’s booth on Thursday night at 5:25 p.m.  What will make this such an “exquisite” event is that Upper Deck will be breaking the company’s most premium products with 2013 Exquisite Collection Football and 2014 Exquisite Collection Golf.

Finally Print Media Free

The first time I picked up a price guide was back in the early 90’s.  It was a copy of Beckett Baseball with Michael Jordan on the cover.  The first time I actually subscribed to a hobby publication was after I purchased a copy of Tuff Stuff featuring Grant Hill on the front.  For years I received copies of Tuff Stuff before flipping over to Beckett.  Before I even thought of starting a blog, I locked myself into a long term subscription to Beckett.  A few months ago I started to receive notices from Beckett asking me to renew my subscription, and I confidently threw them in the garbage.  I’m not ashamed to admit that while starting Sports Card Info I kept receiving copies of the magazine, but it has been a very long time since I have opened one up.  I never saw the need.  Next month will be the first time I’ve never received a print publication that pertains to The Hobby.  Print media is dead and the blogs have taken over.  Price guides are a complete joke and you can get all the information you need online.  Before I started this blog, I was an active member of the Beckett Message Boards (BMB).  At the time, Kevin Haake was the editor of Beckett Baseball and he would ask members to contribute articles which would then be featured in the magazine.  I had a bunch of stuff printed in their magazine and I thought it was the coolest when the magazine came and I saw it in there.  After they changed their website, I left the boards and focused much more on blogging.  Why wait a month for an article to be published when I can do it instantly at my computer?

Does anyone see a good reason for you to subscribe to a print publication that deals with The Hobby?  I don’t.  You can save yourself a lot of money by reading the blogs.  That extra cash can buy you a lot of cards 🙂

Inside these magazines I remember seeing ads for very large shows.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d ever get to attend some of them.

FREE: Exclusive Press Pass Promotional Set

Have you ever been surfing the internet and wondered how you got to a certain website?  Tonight I was doing that very thing and somehow I ended up at Press Pass’s blog.  Press Pass doesn’t update their blog very much, but a few days ago they posted a link to a survey they would like collectors to take.  In return for taking the time to fill out the survey, Press Pass plans to distribute an exclusive promotional set.  At the end of the survey, just fill in your name and address and Press Pass will send you a free promotional set.  They don’t give too much detail about whats included in the set, but here is what one person received:

Mailday MOJO! Thanks Beckett

Last week I received an e-mail from Beckett saying that I correctly placed my article “How To Spot Fake Sports Cards That Are For Sale” on their website.  They said I would be receiving 3 free packs of 2004 Upper Deck Sweet Spot baseball cards in the mail as a gift.  When I checked the mail today there was a bubble envelope with my 3 packs inside.  I couldn’t believe what I pulled.  I pulled a Jim Thome base card for my Phillies collection, Chris Saenz Sweet Beginings #’ed/799, and a John Smoltz Autograph.  I was so surprised to have received an autograph.  I’ll probably be moving the Smoltz auto soon.  Thanks Beckett!!!!!!!
