“Pin-Up” of the Week: Jamie Moyer 2002 Seattle Mariners 25th Anniversary Pin

Photobucket

At age 49, Jamie Moyer has signed a minor league deal with the Colorado Rockies.  Fans will be able to watch him during Spring Training as he tries to make the roster.  In 2010 he got injured and ended up missing the entire 2011 season.  Everyone thought it might have been the end of his playing days, but that’s not the case.  Moyer is one of those likable guys in baseball.  I hope he makes the roster.

This pin was made in honor of the Seattle Mariners 25th Anniversary back in 2002.  At the time Moyer was pitching for them.  When one finds it’s way up for sale, they aren’t that expensive.

I was lucky to meet Jamie Moyer during the March, 2011 Philly Show.  Moyer made his MLB debut the exact day I was born – 6/16/86.

The Philly Show – March 5, 2011

Its been almost a year since I’ve been to The Philadelphia Sportscard & Memorabilia Show, which is held at the Valley Forge Convention Center.  I noticed a few less dealers, but I had fun.  I got some autographs, busted a few boxes, and did what your suppose to do at The Philly Show.  Let me tell you something.  There are two dealers at this show that do extremely well.  One is Marty’s Sportscard Exchange and the other is ESE Supplies.  Marty Davis of Marty’s Sportscard Exchange always has the best deals on wax, and Eddie of ESE Supplies has any type of holder you’d need.  I even stopped by the Louisville Slugger booth.

FYI – a few vintage sets were stolen at the show.  The announcer said the sets came from 1961 and 1971.  They did not state which sport.

Art Mahaffey was the 1st Philly to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  You can see Lenny Dykstra (my personal accountant) in the background wearing the hat.

Hunt Auctions had an impressive display of memorabilia.  This old “Casey at the Bat” book really caught my eye.

In the top right corner, you’ll see an issue of Beckett Baseball with Ryan Howard on the cover.  I’m actually in that issue for when I wrote a little piece on Victor Martinez’s first card.

One of my first stops of the day was at the Louisville Slugger booth.  I purchased a new bat with the Phillies logo and “SPORTS CARD INFO” engraved on it.  Then I got Moyer and Mahaffey to sign it.

Welcome Home Phillies “Dream Scene” Print

A few weeks ago I received a package in the mail from Jamie Cooper who painted the Phillies “Dream Scene” painting that hangs in the Diamond Club of Citizens Bank Park.  Inside the package were two signed prints of this famous piece of art.  I decided to get one framed to place on my wall.  As a Phillies fan, this is a great addition to my personal collection.  If your interested in adding one of these prints to your collection, please contact Jamie Cooper at: jamie@jcap.com.au

Phillies “Dream Team” Painting Possibly Coming Soon To Fans

Upstairs at Citizens Bank Park hanging in the Phillies Diamond Club is one of the greatest pieces of Phillies artwork ever created.  The Phillies “Dream Team” piece was created by Jamie Cooper and features various Philadelphia Phillies from different eras.  It even has Harry Kalas interviewing Richie Ashburn to the right.  I wrote a post about this piece of work last January, and recently I was contacted by Mr. Cooper who wanted to know my thoughts about making prints of the piece available to collectors.  As of right now, only extremely high-end copies are available to collectors and can cost into the thousands.  Cooper would like to offer collectors a chance to own a copy of this print, but at a more economical cost.

What he is thinking about is creating a 45 x 18 inch print on 250 gsm art stock.  The price would probably be around $125.00 plus shipping & handing.  Right now this isn’t definite, but he asked if I would help spread the word informing Phillies fans that this could be something available.  In my opinion, its the greatest piece of Phillies artwork ever created.  It just looks so cool!!

Please let me know what you think of this idea.  Jamie is looking for some feedback to see if its worth going through with.  He has had a lot of requests to make the painting more affordable.

This is a mock-up of what the print could look like.  The names of the players and the story of the painting would come on an attached COA.  If anyone is interested in purchasing a print, please contact Jamie Cooper at: jamie@jcap.com.au

The Best Phillies Painting Ever

This has to be one of the coolest Phillies paintings I’ve ever seen.  It was painted by Jamie Cooper and is currently hanging in the Phillies Hall of Fame.  This painting features a ton of Phillies from the past and present all in one shot.  It looks as if they just got finished playing a game and someone popped their head inside the locker room and took a picture.  Imagine getting signatures on something like this.  Click on each picture to enlarge.
