New HK Bobblehead Hits The Market

Last Sunday, the Wilmington Blue Rocks gave out a new Harry Kalas bobblehead to the first 1,000 fans through the gate.  Before this, Kalas’s only bobblehead came from a stadium giveaway in 2002 and also contained Richie Ashburn.  Many of you know how much an HK fan I am, and I have a feeling one of these will be reaching my shelf soon.  Although its not quite as popular as the one featuring HK and Whitey, they seem to sell for $25.00 to $45.00.

5 Cards I Would Like To See In 2011 Allen & Ginter

The Cardboard Connection is having a contest where you can win 1 free hobby box of 2010 Topps Allen & Ginter.  All you have to do is e-mail them a list of five cards you would like to see in 2011 Allen & Ginter.  Click here for all the contest details.

There are a ton of people I would like to see in Allen & Ginter.  I found it difficult to narrow it down to just five, but here is my list:

  • Jefferson Burdick – author of The American Card Catalog.

Photobucket

  • Steve Jobs Auto – Co-Founder of Apple.

Photobucket

  • Harry Kalas Cut Signature & Tie Relic – Phillies Hall of Fame broadcaster.

Photobucket

  • Bob Uecker Auto – “Mr. Baseball” and 2003 Ford C. Frick Award winner.

  • Ball Park Franks – Hygrade Food Products won a competition in 1959 to be the exclusive supplier of hot dogs to the Detroit Tiger’s stadium. Hygrade Food Products launched a contest to its employees in order to come up with the best brand name for their Detroit Tigers stadium hot dogs.  Mary Ann Kurk, one of Hygrade Food Products sales people at the time, won the contest with the name “Ball Park Franks”.

In addition to this list, I would also like to see a card of Carl Stotz, who founded Little League Baseball.  So who or what would be on your list?

Monty Sheldon Mailday Includes A Very Rare Kalas Sketch

This afternoon I received a package in the mail from renown sports artist Monty Sheldon.  Inside was a birthday gift that I will never let leave my personal collection.  Monty took the time to draw me a Harry Kalas one-of-one sketch card.  This card is way beyond awesome!!!!!!!!!  It was extremely nice of him to take the time to draw this cardboard masterpiece.  This has to be the ultimate one-of-one in my collection.  You won’t be able to find another card like this anywhere else in the world.  You can’t imagine how surprised I was when I opened the package.  This has to be one of the nicest cards I own.  Now this is a true one-of-one.

In addition to the Harry Kalas sketch card, Monty also sent my three Phillies 2010 National Chicle SP’s, and he autographed a few Chicle cards for me including Michael Vick and Jimmie Foxx.

Be sure to check out Monty Sheldon’s website and auctions.

This card depicts Hall of Fame Phillies broadcaster, Harry Kalas, throwing out the first pitch.  Monty Sheldon even signed and dated the back of the card.  It is card number 64 in his 2010 Sketch Card Set.

Harry Kalas Red Ink Mailday!

I’ve been waiting all week for this card to arrive so I could show it off.  Last weekend I picked up this Harry Kalas 2004 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Red Ink autograph serial numbered 1/25.  I’m so happy I was able to win this card.  I even got it for less than the blue ink version I own which is numbered 1/50.  This is the fourth Kalas autograph I own and is one of the cornerstones of my collection.  I’m always on the lookout for more Kalas autographs.

Thats What I Call A Phillies Mailday

Last Sunday morning I made a huge addition to my Phillies collection, and I’m happy to say it arrived today.  Thats right.  I purchased a card Sunday morning and it arrived today.  Talk about fast shipping!

If you’ve been reading Sports Card Info for awhile, you should know how much of a Phillies fan I am.  Thats why I battled for this 2004 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Harry Kalas Blue Ink / Red Stitch autograph serial numbered 1/50.  You rarely see his certified autographs pop-up for sale, and when they do the auctions can go crazy.  This auction had 20 bids and a few other collectors took it right up to my maximum bid, but I won.  The seller contacted me last night to let me know my card was on the way and he said he included another card with it to keep Harry company.  Inside the bubble mailer today along with the Kalas autograph was a Richie Ashburn 2005 Donruss Greats Dual bat/jersey.  What a great seller!!!

This is my third Harry Kalas signature I have in my collection.  I also own an ’05 UD Sweet Spot autograph and I have his signature on one of my bats.  Upper Deck did a great job with his Sweet Spot signatures.

The Harry Kalas Memorial Statue

What Phillies fan wouldn’t want to see a statue of Harry Kalas?  Thats exactly what Dear Harry, Inc. is trying to do right now.  Over 20,000 fans have petitioned to have a Harry Kalas statue in Philadelphia and Dear Harry, Inc. is looking to raise enough money to do so.  Be sure to check out their website where you can learn more about the organization and how to donate.  Over the weekend I saw a flyer for the Harry Kalas Memorial Statue laying on one of the tables during The Philly Show.  Be sure to check them out and ad one of the badges to your website or blog.

I Bet HK Will Be Watching

Earlier this season the Phillies lost legendary broadcaster and one of their best friends, Harry Kalas.  That April afternoon was a dark day for Phillies fans everywhere.  The first time I ever met Harry in person was in January of 2008 right after they won the NL East Division.  The Phillies had come to Williamsport for a dinner and to interact with some of their fans.  Throughout the dinner people would interview some of the coaches and players, but they would save Harry for last.  I always found it cool to sit there and listen to that familiar voice I would hear on the television and/or radio.  During that dinner he told everyone that the Phillies were going to win the World Series that year, and they did.  Last January Harry attended the same dinner and again told everyone the Phillies would win the World Series.  So far Harry has been right this season.  I’m sure Harry and Whitey will be watching the Series from that big broadcasters booth in the sky.  Lets win this World Series for Harry!!!!

PHOTOS: Crosscutters vs. Renegades – 7/21/09

Photobucket

Last night I went to Historic Bowman Field to watch the Williamsport Crosscutters play against the Hudson Valley Renegades.  I looked for an ’09 Team Set but they won’t get those in for another few weeks, so I picked up an older set from 2005 that I didn’t have.  Harry Kalas was on the front of their 2009 program so I got one and was able to get Luke Wertz and Korey Noles to sign it.  I got some great photos and even caught a foul ball!!!
