“Pin-Up” of the Week: Space Jam Tune Squad Large Team Warner Bros. Limited Edition Pin

 photo spacejampin_zps765204e3.jpg

Earlier this week, the interwebs was abuzz after a movie poster surfaced featuring Bugs Bunny and LeBron James hinting at a possible sequel to the 1996 film Space Jam.  Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but it was all a hoax.  Warner Bros. doesn’t have any plans right now to make a sequel.  Although LeBron James has indicated that he’d be up for it.

Warner Bros. released this limited edition large pin that shows the members of the Tune Squad, including Michael Jordan.  Space Jam merchandise doesn’t really sell for all that much given the fact Warner Bros. would slap that logo on anything in an attempt to promote the movie.  This pin is worth about $13.00.

“Pin-Up” of the Week: The Avengers – Iron Man Disney Soda Fountain L.E. Pin

 photo ironmanpin_zpse9da48eb.jpg

Right next door to the El Capitan Theater in Los Angelas you’ll find the Disney Soda Fountain & Studio Store.  One of the major events that fans look forward to are the new pin releases that draw a lot of people.  This pin, along with four others, were sold last year to celebrate the release of The Avengers.  It is modeled after the 1968 #47 comic book and is limited to only 300 pins.  They sell for $20.00 to $30.00.  On May 11, 2013 the Disney Soda Fountain & Studio Store will be selling six different pins to commemorate Iron Man 3.  This pin set has been pre-selling for crazy prices.

The 2013 summer movie season has officially begun.  Today I saw Iron Man 3 and really enjoyed it.  You get to see Tony Stark battle a lot of demons after the events that took place during The Avengers.  He has been building one type of armor after another while thinking of different situations that they could be used for.  In the final battle we get to see all of these armors fighting together.

The Mark 39 Sub Orbital Suit “Gemini” is the only armor that I don’t remember actually seeing in the movie, yet they let us know it exists.  It would also be the only one Stark didn’t destroy.  Perhaps they’re saving it for when he goes to meet the Guardians of the Galaxy.  I love these movies and I hope Robert Downey Jr comes back to play Tony Stark.  I really can’t see anyone else playing that character.

“Pin-Up” of the Week: Hard Rock Cafe 2013 Boston Marathon L.E. Guitar Pin

 photo 13bmhrcgpin_zps82d5d44b.jpg

I don’t think we need to rehash everything that went on this week in Boston.  Its been all over the news.  Hard Rock Cafe made this pin to commemorate the 117th running of the Boston Marathon.  They only made 300 of them which isn’t a lot when it comes to pins.  Collectors can find them for $15.00 to $30.00.  Volunteers helping out during the marathon received a logo lapel pin which seems to be a bit more popular.  Then again, anything associated with this event is getting a lot of attention.  Some people have even been selling their finishing medals.  I guess capitalism never stops.

Flashback Product of the Week: 1991 Champs Hi Flyers Top Pro Motocross Premier Limited Edition

Photobucket

For a product that was geared mainly towards males, it sure did contain quite a bit of pink don’t you think?  A lot of adolescent males will tell you that having a dirt bike made you king of the neighborhood while growing up.  That usually lasted until they were old enough to drive.

Back in 1991, Champs made the decision to release an entire product based upon some of the top pro motocross riders of the day.  The set consists of 150 cards which can be broken down into Rookies and Race Action.  With this being the premier edition, most of the cards picturing individual riders are considered rookies.  The only note worthy card that deserves the slightest bit of attention would the the Jeremy McGrath rookie.  McGrath has won multiple Motocross and Supercross Championships and is one of the most recognized riders out there.  He has also had a handful of popular motocross games for the PlayStation, N64, and GameBoy.

Champs went on to produce another motocross set in 1992, which would be their last.  This version had a 200-card base set with special Mego Moto cards that were inserted one per box.  Both sets are barely worth a thing.  Despite being labeled a “Limited Edition”, they made plenty of them.  Boxes can easily be picked-up for $15.00.  Not every sport in the world can handle a standalone card product.  But back in the early 90’s apparently companies thought it would work.  SC Racing also issued a motocross set in 1988.

2012 Limited Football Box Break & Review

Design: Photobucket

The majority of Limited Football looks quite similar to what you would normally find within past releases.  The best looking cards are the rookie and veteran jumbo jerseys/patches.  They came out great.  One of the toughest things to do when you have a jumbo relic is creating a well designed card.  Many times the jumbo relic will take over the entire card, not leaving much room for a picture of the player.  Panini made the right choice by using zoomed-in player photos.

Photobucket

I have no clue why Panini placed that white strip over some of the jumbo relics.  Its just asking to be ripped off by accident.

Price: Photobucket

Boxes are currently selling for $100.00.

“Hit” Quality: Photobucket

Inside each box you’ll find one silver pack (kinda looks like a Pop-Tart) that contains (3) “hits”.  There should be at least (1) autograph.

I pulled the following:

Auto/Relic

  • Brandon Weeden Phenom 2-color Patch Auto #’ed/199

Relics

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick Limited Threads Jersey #’ed/49
  • Chris Johnson Limited Threads Jersey #’ed/99

Parallel

  • Shea McClellin Spotlight Phenom #’ed/49

Base

  • Steve Smith #’ed/399
  • Drew Brees #’ed/399
  • Doug Flutie Legend #’ed/349

Overall: Photobucket

Overall, I give 2012 Limited Football an average 3 helmets out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect).  The rookie and veteran jumbo jerseys/patches are really the nicest looking part.  I don’t have a problem with the Phenom autographed patches either.  The Weeden I pulled is signed on-card, and wasn’t a redemption.
