“Pin-Up” of the Week: Super Bowl VII Press Pin

 photo miamiudmediapin_zpsf05524bc.jpg

Its not much to look at, but this is the pin that was given to members of the media that were covering Super Bowl VII.  As you can see, its just a basic helmet with the NFL logo on the side.  They certainly don’t make them this subtle anymore.  Don’t let its simple design fool you.  These are rare to come by.  When one is available for sale, the asking price is usually around $300.00 or $400.00.  If you’re in the market to purchase one of these pins, be careful.  The Super Bowl VI press pin looks very similar, except for a few minor differences.

Super Bowl VII took place on 1/14/73 between the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins.  Miami won 14-7, while making their mark in history going the entire season undefeated.  No other team since then has gone undefeated.  It is a record that will likely never be broken.

So far the Dolphins are having a great season.  They’re currently 2-0, which is something they haven’t been many times within the last ten years.  That new logo seems to be working for them.

Sportkings Series F To Focus On Miami Dolphins Perfect Season

The Miami Dolphins 17-0 Perfect Season is one of the biggest accomplishments in NFL history.  Fans probably won’t see this ever happen again.  Despite all of this, no card manufacturer has ever dedicated a portion of any of their products to this monumental event.  Over the years they keep praising teams like the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.  Finally, someone has stepped up to the plate and has given members of this team their long over due time in the light.  That someone would be Sportkings.

Sure, some of these players have autographs and relics in other products, but nothing like this.  Sportkings Series F, due out August 1, will feature a new concept called Anthology.  The first Anthology Autograph Card insert set will feature the members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins.  13 members of the Dolphins will be featured in this insert set.  There are 72 of each player hard-signed featuring their home jerseys and 72 of each player hard-signed in their away jersey.

The Perfect Season Anthology autographed/memorabilia cards feature pieces of seat from the Orange Bowl that are signed by players such as Bob Griese, Jim Kiick, Howard Twilley, Nick Buoniconti, and more.  I’m glad Sportkings was able to include guys like Buoniconti, Twilley, and Fernandez.  These guys don’t have many modern day cards.

After the way collectors reacted to the Art Cards found in Series E, it shouldn’t surprise you that they’d make a return this year.  Check out these all hand-painted bad boys!

“Pin-Up” of the Week: Miami Heat 2012 NBA The Finals Champions Pin

Photobucket

Well, it looks as if LeBron James finally got his championship after being drafted almost a decade ago.  I guess everyone thought that he should have had ten championships by now.  I was routing for the Thunder.  Professional athletes all have some kind of ego, but when it comes to basketball, the Heat have some of the biggest egos around.  Remember the spectacle the Heat put on when James came to play for them?  Wade, Bosh, and James were all up on stage surrounded by fog.  Give me a break.

This pin, along with many others are starting to surface.  $10.00 seems to be the going price.  After the Heat won last night, you know what that means?  Some poor kid in Ethiopia is soon going to be walking around wearing a 2012 Thunder championship shirt.

“Pin-Up” of the Week: Miami Dolphins Mascot Football Player Pin

The Dolphins need a lot of things.  I think they need a new logo that looks meaner.  The facial expression on the pin pictured above would be a good start.  Add some sharp teeth, perhaps a bite taken out of one of the fins, and maybe a cigar hanging out of the corner of his mouth.

This is just your run-of-the-mill Miami Dolphins pin collectors will find.  It can easily be found for a few dollars.
