4-Pack TeenyMates Break

Breaking open these blind packaged toys is fun and a nice change of pace.  I want to see more.  This afternoon I opened (2) packs of the new TeenyMates NFL Series 2, and (2) packs of TeenyMates NHL.  No rare figures, but fun!  These make great conversation pieces.  Put them on your desk at the office, and they will get people talking.  Have them sit in for you on all those important meetings.  But whatever you do, don’t feed them after midnight.

What Has TeenyMates Been Up To Lately?

The Party Animal, makers of Lil’ Teammates and TeenyMates, have been working hard to bring some new products to its fans.  After the successful launch of their NFL Series 1 TeenyMates set last year, they’ve decided to roll out a Series 2.

The new Ice Blue chase figure reminds me of Iceman from the X-Men.

2013 NFL Series 2 Highlights:

  • Collect all 32 NFL teams + 6 rare figures
  • 2 Throwback figures, a Metallic Gold figure, an Ice Blue figure, a referee, and a Glow-in-the-Dark figure
  • Each foil bag includes 2 random NFL figures and 2 random puzzle pieces, adding mystery and excitement to each pack
  • Collect all 35 puzzle pieces and build a double-sided puzzle featuring a football field playset and collector mini-poster
  • Packs will cost around $3.99

After the initial release of the Series 1 NFL set, collectors began turning their TeenyMates into keychains and earrings.  It looks like the folks at TeenyMates saw this and decided to create these new Tagalongs.

Tagalongs Highlights:

  • All 32 NFL teams available
  • Each Tagalong costs around $5.99

Judging by their website, it also looks like they will be making TeenyMates for the NBA too.

If you’re looking for something a little bigger, Lil’ Teammates are now making NCAA and NFL wide receivers.  Plus they have all new team sets.  I would like to see variations made for the bigger figures like we see with the blind packaged TeenyMates.  I’ve got some new packs of the NFL Series 2 and NHL TeenyMates to bust.  I’ll also be holding some contests for a few sealed packs and a Tagalong.

“Pin-Up” of the Week: 1972 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Press Pin

Photobucket

After a lot of negotiating and wondering if there would be a season at all, the NHL started their shortened season today.  Fans will once again be able to cheer on their favorite team while watching what I like to call “boxing on ice”.

As you can see, this pin was given to members of the media during the 1972 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.  That year, the Boston Bruins went on to defeat the New York Rangers and win the Stanley Cup.  Bobby Orr was the MVP.  The last pin like this one sold for $159.00.

One thing that this temporary lockout did was limit collectors the ability to obtain new rookie cards for the 2012-2013 season.  The NHLPA made this decision on Thursday.  I’m not sure why they came to this conclusion.  It most likely had something to do with money.  Dr. Price of ITG wrote a great piece on this topic yesterday.  Rookies are still going to play this year, and its far from what happened in the 2004-2005 season, but I still think they should allow manufacturers to issue rookies.  Rookies are one of the major driving forces behind new products, and not being able to include them this season is really going to limit the amount of hockey products released.  Those dealers that rely on hockey products are really going to feel it.  The lockout was bad enough, and then the NHLPA pulls this garbage.

Lil’ Teammates Collectible Team Sets = Great Holiday Gift Item

Photobucket

The Party Animal, Inc. enjoyed working with Sports Card Info so much on getting the word out on their new TeenyMates line of toys, they decided to come back around for another go.  This time we’re dealing with a new holiday gift item – Lil’ Teammates Collectible Team Sets.  The Collectible Team Sets include all three positions for the NFL figures: quarterback, running back, and lineman.

They are currently being offered for 22 different NFL teams:

  • Chicago Bears
  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Denver Broncos
  • Cleveland Browns
  • San Diego Chargers
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • New York Giants
  • New York Jets
  • Detroit Lions
  • Green Bay Packers
  • New England Patriots
  • Oakland Raiders
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Washington Redskins
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Minnesota Vikings

The Collectible Team Sets are for the standard sized 3″ vinyl figures and come in a nicely decorated display box.  These along with College, MLB, and NHL team sets are available exclusively at Kohl’s.  The MSRP on a set is $24.99, which is a deal considering what you would spend if you purchased each figure individually.

Starting this weekend Sports Card Info will be holding the first of two contests.  The winners will be able to select which NFL Collectible Team Set they would like.

On a side note.  Have you seen what the three rare TeenyMates figures have been selling for on the secondary market?  Take a look!

I don’t think it will be a long until we seem them make rare figures for their 3″ line.  Especially after seeing prices like this.

Flashback Product of the Week: 1994-95 Canada Games NHL Pogs

Photobucket

Pogs were one of the biggest fads of the 1990’s.  I remember having canisters filled with these little disks.  They gained popularity almost as fast as kids lost interest in them.  If I remember correctly, this is how you played.

  1. Each player picks which pogs from their collection they will play with.  Usually each player must put in an equal amount.
  2. Place the pogs upside down with the backs facing up.
  3. Each player has what they call a “slammer” or “slug” which looks and feels like a heavy pog.  Most of the time they were made with plastic or metal.  Drop the “slammer” or “slug” on the stack to see how many pogs you can flip over.
  4. Remove the pogs that flipped over and whoever has the most pogs at the end wins.

Today pogs aren’t worth that much.  I’m sure there are some rare occasions where one sells for a ton of money, but most are worthless.  The designs are fun to look at.  My local mall had a pog stand at the height of their popularity.

Manufacturers put almost anything they could think of on pogs.  Cartoon characters, T.V. shows, movies, superheroes, books, and even anti-drug messages.  Its not surprising that sports figures made their way onto these little things.

1994-95 Canada Games NHL Pogs was one of the sports related sets.  In fact, the Canada Games Company was one of the driving forces behind the entire pogs fad.  This set consists of 376 pogs and 8 checklists.  Each pack contained 5 pogs.

I highly doubt we’ll see these make a comeback anytime soon.
