2009 Executive Trading Politicians Box Break & Review

Executive Trading is one of the newest card manufacturers to enter The Hobby.  They focus strictly on political trading cards, and contain images of people who work for the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches of government.  They were nice enough to send over a box for me to break and review.

Design: Photobucket

The first thing that I noticed when I opened my box was the size of the packs.  These packs are slightly small when you compare them to the basic pack that we’re all familiar with.  The cards themselves are about the size of a credit card and are designed to look like currency.  On the reverse side of each card they provide you with more information about that specific person.  You can easily read all the information, and the brownish tint that covers each card makes it look like an old document which I think looks good.

Price: Photobucket

This is one of the few companies that allow you to purchase hobby boxes directly off their website.  Each box costs $90.00 from Executive Trading, but you might be able to find one on eBay for a little less.  A lot of educational institutions will purchase products like this for their classrooms.

Hit Quality: Photobucket

One thing most collectors will notice right off the back is that this product doesn’t contain any relics and/or autographs.  That is something I’d like to see randomly inserted throughout some of their future boxes.  There are rare cards for you to look for such as: Obama (Gold), Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Roberts, Nancy Pelosi, Ron Paul, John McCain, and Edward Kennedy.  The rare cards can be redeemed for cash via the Executive Trading site.  Probably the biggest hit would be the Barack Obama 22k Gold Series insert which you can find randomly in packs.  Each pack also comes with a Lucky code card which you can go on their website and enter the code to see if you have won one of the 21 Obama 22k Golds.  You can also look for White House cards Michelle Obama, Bo, Air Force One, and Marine One.

Overall: Photobucket

Overall I give this product 3 American flags out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect).  I would like to see some relics and/or autographs in the future.  Maybe Executive Trading could create a product with various business people in the upcoming years.  Who wouldn’t want to pull a rookie card of Bill Gates or Steve Jobs?  This product would fit well in a school environment, and maybe even help turn kids back on to collecting.

Obama Obak Cut Surfaces

In case you didn’t see it yet, the Obama 2009 TRISTAR Obak Cut Signature has surfaced and is commanding a ton of bids already.  This is the first cut signature I’ve seen returned to a collector by TRISTAR.  The only other cut autograph I’ve seen was the redemption for Chuck Connors.  This Obama has already passed the $700.00 mark and I’m sure it will go much higher.  This is probably one of the most valuable autographs you could pull from this year’s Obak.

Topps Obama & 2008 UD Rookie Exclusive Pack Breaks

While at Wal-Mart this morning I picked up a few packs to break.  I decided to go outside of my “box” and purchase a pack of Obama Topps cards while at the same time picking up a rack pack of 2008 Upper Deck Rookie Exclusive football cards.  Here are the results:

Obama Topps pack:

  • Frank Okam
  • Shawn Crable
  • Gosder Cherilus
  • Dennis Keyes
  • Derrick Harvey
  • Jerod Mayo
  • DeJuan Tribble
  • Vince Young Rookie Photo Shoot Flashback

Overall it was a decent break.  I pulled my first Bess and Henne rookies for my Dolphins collection.  After checking eBay, there is an actual Josh Booty who was a rookie back in 2001.  The one I pulled has to be an error, because on the back it says John.

Upper Deck Prepares to Release ‘Presidential Lettermen’ Trading Cards of Barack Obama

Exchange cards inserted in 2008 Upper Deck Icons Football will be good for one of these unique collectibles of President-Elect Obama

North Las Vegas, NV (November 10, 2008) – With interest in collectibles of President Barack Obama on the rise, Upper Deck has elected to deliver some of the most compelling items to its collecting constituents. On the heels of announcing its special “Presidential Victor” card, Upper Deck is now proud to unveil “Presidential Lettermen” cards of Obama.

Exchange cards for a “Presidential Letterman” card were inserted randomly into 2008 Upper Deck Icons Football which released in late August. The cards could be redeemed for whichever candidate who won the election and now – after Obama made political history – collectors who have registered these cards with Upper Deck will be receiving a truly historic collectible.

Collectors who find multiple cards could eventually spell out either “OBAMA” or “PRESIDENT” or both. Since the election, exchange cards have been selling for anywhere from $50 to $100 per card at on-line auction sites. The completed cards should ship out in early January, shortly before Obama is sworn in. Collectors can find 2008 Upper Deck Icons Football in stores now.
