National Exclusive OYO Minifigures Return For 2015

 photo oyo15nationalminifigure_zpsm11rd19w.jpg

For a third year in a row, collectors will have the opportunity to pickup one of these National exclusive OYO minifigures.  As you can see, this year’s minifigures will have a hockey theme.  You can find these at booth #616P in the corporate area.  Only 100 minifigures will be given out each day of the show – 60 kids and 40 adults.  First come first serve!

If you’ve got kids, be sure to ask them about their daily building sessions.  These run from Thursday to Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Each session runs for 45 minutes.  OYO supplies you with all of the building kits.  Only ten spots available per session.

Exclusive OYO Minifigures For The 35th National

We’re exactly one week away from the opening of the 35th National Sports Collectors Convention, and the promos are still pouring out.

My top three favorite innovations the hobby has seen in recent years include Topps BUNT, Sports Card Album, and OYO Sportstoys.  For a second straight year, OYO Sportstoys will have specially made minifigures for National attendees.  This year there will be two different minifigures to chase.

Never Enough Cards/Sports Evolution Marketing booth #1132 will be handling this promotion.  Each day of the show they will hand out 125 minifigures to the first 75 kids and 50 adults.  OYO has said that the National football minifigures are limited to 200 and the baseball to 400.

Between Thursday and Sunday of the National from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. OYO will have 45 minute building sessions.  Fans can build a field set or Zamboni.  Ten spots will be open per session.  OYO will provide all of the building kits and there will be tons of giveaways including OYO minifigures.  Parents of interested children may register their child, ages 6 and up in advance by sending an email to OYONationalPromo@aol.com to reserve a spot.  Parents should send an email including the child’s name, day and time they would like to participate, and a contact phone number.  You can also reserve a spot by stopping by the booth.

Never Enough Cards/Sports Evolution Marketing will also have brick building displays they’ve created for the show too.

On a side note, it looks like OYO is also starting to make minifigures for Little League now.

OYO Launches Line Of NHL Minifigures

 photo naskoyo_zpsfda03528.jpg

OYO Sportstoys began selling officially licensed NHL minifigures this week.  As of right now the teams they are offering minifigures for include the Rangers, Canadiens, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, and Bruins.  Other teams will soon follow.

I’ve got to say that OYO really put some thought into their new line of hockey minifigures.  Included with every minifigure you’ll find a stand, stick, helmet, shield, puck, and skates.  OYO even designed the players to look like they’re wearing gloves.  They could have easily just copied the basic design they use for their baseball and football players, but they went the extra step in redesigning the hands.  The same could be said about the skates too.  It won’t be long until you start seeing these guys pop-up at your local hobby shop or sports venue.

Founded in 2011, OYO Sportstoys has seen much success with their line of officially licensed minifigures.  This success has even spawned off Field Sets for both baseball and football.  It really wouldn’t surprise me if we see hockey Field Sets down the road.  The best thing about them though is that they’re fully compatible with other building toys such as LEGOs.  Having a minifigure of yourself is almost an honor.  Just like seeing yourself as a character on Family Guy or The Simpsons.  Kids like LEGOs and kids like sports.  Its only natural to put them together.  Funky stuff like this is just awesome.  I hope OYO sees a boost in sales with The LEGO Movie coming out soon.

OYO Sportstoys Field Set Review

 photo oyopiratesfs1_zps930c5c8c.jpg

According to Santa Claus, there are only 97 more days to Christmas.  Kmart has already rolled out the first Christmas commercial this year, and it’s just the beginning.  It really does come sooner with each passing year.

OYO has recently added a new lineup of toys to their collection that I’m sure will be a big hit this holiday season – Field Sets.  Collectors began snarfing up OYO’s Field Sets this past summer during the All-Star Game in New York.  Now they offer four types of Field Sets for each MLB team – Starter Set, Infield Set, Outfield Set, and the Game Time Set.  If you’re looking to go all out, it’s best to go with the Game Time Set as it is the highest level, and consists of the other three sets in one.

The 157 piece Game Time Set contains the following:

  • 136 OYO Building Blocks
  • 10 OYO minifigures – 9 OYO team characters & 1 OYO Umpire (The umpire minifigures are exclusive to the Field Sets)
  • 11 baseball accessories (9 gloves, 1 bat, and 1 ball)

Although the minifigures that come along with each Field Set don’t represent specific players, their facial expressions completely make up for it.  The faces on the Field Set minifigures are much more animated when compared to the actual player minifigures OYO sells separately.  You could always take the head of a Field Set minifigure and put it on the body of one of the player specific ones.  That’s one of the great things about OYO’s toys.  They’re interchangeable.  Not just with each other either, but with other building toys such as Lego.  So if you wanted to have two OYO teams playing against one another and during the game they get invaded by some Lego alien set, it’ll work.  Its limited only by what your imagination can come up with.

What would I like to see OYO do next?  They are currently working on blind packages that contain a few random minifigures.  I think this is a great idea, as the blind packaged collectible market has taken off.  But the figures inside need to have some type of chase factor.  Minifigures with variations would work.  How about randomly inserted redemptions for you to get your very own minifigure made?  I think they need to expand on the Field Set idea and move into stadiums, vendors, team buses/planes, fans could build.

OYO has really hit a niche market that I think Lego missed.  Anything that can connect you with what you love now to something you played with during your childhood is awesome.  If you think these things are popular now, wait until the Lego movie comes out next year.

OYO Sportstoys Creates Exclusive Minifigure For The 34th National

 photo 1001515_10151530215216977_1622233410_n_zps36d0ec29.jpg

OYO Sportstoys has been busy.  During the All-Star FanFest they unveiled their new Field Sets and blind packs.  Now they’re moving on to the 2013 National Sports Collectors Convention.  If you’re attending The National, be sure to stop by booth #670.  Each day they will be giving away 100 (50 kids and 50 adults) Special Edition OYO minifigures that commemorate this year’s NSCC.

In addition, Thursday-Sunday between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., OYO will run one-half hour sessions for kids to build an OYO field.  There are 12 spots available per day.  OYO is providing 12 field sets and each participant will be invited to build and play with the field sets and OYO players.  All participants will also receive a bag of “goodies” from Never Enough Cards including sports card sets, packs and other items.  Extra OYO figures will be given out as prizes.  Kids may register in advance by sending an email to  OYONationalPromo@aol.com  to reserve a spot.  Parents should send an email including the child’s name, day and time they would like to participate and a contact phone number.

I couldn’t be happier to hear news like this.  Having your favorite sports figures turned into a minifigure that is completely compatible with other popular building products such as LEGOs is just awesome.  It doesn’t matter who you are, because I’m guessing that a majority of people played with toys like this when they were kids.  Being able to connect what you enjoy now to something from your childhood is great, and that’s exactly what these minifigures do.

One day I would like to see these minifigures reach the level of collectability that some of the LEGO issued ones have.  Just take a look at some of the insane prices the Comic-Con superhero minifigures are selling for.  As of right now, OYO Sportstoys makes minifigures for a wide array of baseball and football players.  Plus they make minifigures for all types of events such as the Super Bowl, Spring Training, and NFL Draft.  What I would like to see from them in the future are more limited editions and minifigure variations.

What’s up next for OYO fans?  Earlier this week OYO released this image which can only indicate they’re working on hockey minifigures next.

OYO Sportstoys Prepares To Release Officially Licensed NFL Minifigures

Photobucket

OYO Sportstoys is preparing to launch their NFL line of minifigures.  It only seems natural to go this way after the success they’ve been having with their MLB, MiLB, and Baseball Hall of Fame minifigures.  OYO Sportstoys released this image today of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady clearly in minifigure form.  Just like the baseball minifigures, these will be completely compatible with already existing building products such as LEGOs.  These mini qb’s sure will be difficult to “block” 🙂  Looks like fun!

The Official Sports Card Info OYO Minifigure Review

Photobucket

The slinky… the pet rock… Cabbage Patch Kids… Tickle-Me-Elmo.  All are top toys that parents fought to find so they could see their children’s faces light up on Christmas morning.  But now, there is a new toy preparing to hit the streets that everyone will need to have if they want to be deemed cool among their friends.  What I’m talking about of course is the official Andrew Chrisman – Sports Card Info Minifigure made by my friends over at OYO Sportstoys.

Photobucket

OYO Sportstoys is a fairly new company that has obtained licenses with Major League Baseball, MLBPA, and MiLB to produce minifigures of many popular players.  As of this writing, OYO Sportstoys makes minifigures covering every MLB team, and they recently started their MiLB line.  It looks like hockey and football won’t be far behind.  But one of the coolest things they have started to produce for fans are custom OYO minifigures.

There are three types of custom OYO minifigures that they offer.  If you would like your name, facial likeness, position, and number on a personalized MLB minifigure, they can easily do that.  This way you can prove to people that you actually played pro ball 🙂  The other two custom services go even further allowing you to have your own team/company name, logo, etc…  This is beyond cool!  I’m betting that anyone reading this remembers playing with LEGOs and wanting to be turned into their own minifigure.  Even the box gets customized to your liking, and resembles a baseball card.

Speaking of other building products such as LEGOs, OYO Sportstoys minifigures are completely compatible with other building toys.  This is one of the best things about their products.  You can easily integrate them with other popular building toys like LEGOs.  This way you don’t have to go out and purchase a whole new product line.  Tapping into MLB and MiLB is also an uncharted place no other minifigure manufacturer has gone.  LEGO has lightly touched on basketball, soccer, and hockey, but nothing like what OYO Sportstoys is doing.

Custom OYO minifigures make great promos for virtually anyone.  Marketing people need to take a good hard look at these.  How many times have you gone to a company event and walked with worthless promos that will most likely end up in the garbage, i.e. key chains, pencils, pens, and god knows what else.  How fun would it be to show up to a company event and see that you have your own minifigure?  Its just something different.  I hope to see these as stadium giveaways someday.

Minifigures in general are quite collectible, especially the custom ones and exclusives only available for a certain time.  It will be interesting to see how collectors respond when some of these custom OYO minifigures find their way onto the secondary market.  In many ways, these custom ones might be more in demand than anything containing an MLB or MiLB logo.  That’s just how collectors are.  I would like to see them publish a database that collectors could refer to in order to see how many of each type of custom OYO minifigure was produced.

These minifigures are much more advanced than anything we’ve seen from LEGO.  They have 11 points of articulation compared to the 7 we’re all use to.  Having this additional movement allows the minifigure to be posed in various positions we’re just no use to seeing.  It makes them look much more lifelike.  Each player comes with a cap, bat, ball, glove, and stand.  The stand contains a unique DNA number that doesn’t have a use quite yet, but I’m sure it won’t be long until we find out what you can do with it.  Most likely it will be used for some kind of online content.

This December will be Sports Card Info’s 5th anniversary.  Never in my life did I think that I would have my own action figure.  OYO Sportstoys has a really great thing going and I hope their success continues.

OYO – Your Favorite Player Has Been Minifigured

Photobucket

It doesn’t matter how old you are, its ok to admit that minifigures are awesome!  OYO Sports Toys have turned some of your favorite athletes into minifigure form.  Having yourself turned into a minifigure is almost an honor, just like seeing your favorite athlete turned into a character on Family Guy or The Simpsons.

One of the best things about their minifigures is the fact they are completely compatible with other building products like LEGOs.  Having a feature like that is great because building toys such as LEGOs are very popular and trying to create your own building product to compete wouldn’t work that well.   According to the OYO website, it looks like they make minifigures for the Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, and Rangers.  It also looks as if they have plans to make minifigures for football, hockey, and more sports.  These just aren’t cheap knock-offs either, they have all the proper licenses to use the team names and logos.  I like how they just didn’t slap a team logo on a generic minifigure too.  They took their time and concentrated on the individual facial features as well.  Very cool!

Christmas isn’t too far away, and if you have a young sports fan these might be right up their ally.  Don’t forget about Bleacher Creatures and Lil’ Teammates too.

You can follow OYO Sports Toys on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  Ever wonder what it would be like to see Shane Victorino fly a spaceship?  Well now you can.

You can find these at MLB.com, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Sports Authority.
