You Know What’s Cool? Little League Pins That Look Like Packs Of 1954 Bowman Baseball Cards

With the cancellation of the 2020 Little League World Series, I’ve been looking around for some alternative sources to obtain new pins this year.  eBay has always been an option, but the Little League Pin Traders Club group on Facebook can be an equal or even better source.

Everyday collectors are posting pictures of their pins looking to trade.  Upon joining, I came to realize how many pins I didn’t know existed.  That’s the thing about Little League pins.  You can go many years without knowing that certain pins exist.  There is no official release date and/or checklist.  In addition to that, the quantities are all different.

Did you know there are some Little League pins that look just like packs of old baseball cards?  Organizing a trade using one of my Sports Card Info pins, I was able to obtain (2) pins that look like packs of 1954 Bowman Baseball.  One of them is green, and the other is red.

These pins aren’t small either.  They’re made of metal, and are about the size of a normal pack of cards.  High-quality and very heavy.  I had no clue they existed until I joined this group.  Other baseball card pack pins I’ve seen include 1952 Bowman Baseball and 1963 Topps Baseball.

Its interesting when the sports card hobby collides with the pin collecting world.

Product Highlight: 2002 Topps Commemorative Packs Collection

To quote the great Anchorman Ron Burgundy – “I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”  This is exactly what comes to mind when I think back to the 2002 Topps Commemorative Packs Collection.

Topps consolidated all of their baseball products they released that year into a single product – 2002 Topps Commemorative Packs Collection.  Housed inside this fancy red binder is one pack of each baseball product Topps released in 2002.  That’s (27) total packs which include:

  • 2002 Topps Series 1
  • 2002 Topps Series 2
  • 2002 Topps Traded & Rookies
  • 2002 Topps Chrome Series 1
  • 2002 Topps Chrome Series 2
  • 2002 Topps Heritage

  • 2002 Topps Opening Day
  • 2002 Topps Total
  • 2002 Topps 10
  • 2002 Topps Archives: Best Years Edition

  • 2002 Topps Reserve
  • 2002 Topps Stadium Club: Relic Edition
  • 2002 Topps American Pie: Spirit of America Edition
  • 2002 Topps Super Teams

Each binder is limited to (500) copies.  Binder pages hold up to (4) packs.  A detailed write-up about each pack is also supplied.

The two most valuable packs would be 2002 Topps Tribute: Milestones & Memories Edition and 2002 Topps Pristine.  Those guarantee a relic in every pack.

Its all about the presentation here.  The packs are no different than the ones found in their traditional boxes.

If You Build It, They Will Come – Field of Dreams Relics Highlight Leaf’s Holiday Bonus Packs

Brian Gray’s mind was churning while playing in the Team of Dreams game last September.  As you can clearly see below, Leaf has made cards containing pieces of authentic cornstalk from the official Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa.  This is the famous field from the 1989 film Field of Dreams.  These can only be found in the Holiday Bonus Packs Leaf sends out to its distributors.

The set will consists of the following: Actor Matthew Perry, signer Randy Owen, Johnny Bench, Wade Boggs, Rod Carew, Carlton Fisk, Doc Gooden, Rickey Henderson, Reggie Jackson, Paul Molitor, Jim Palmer, Jim Rice, Pete Rose, Ozzie Smith, Bruce Sutter and Frank Thomas.  No Kevin Costner.  Are they gimmicky?  Sure.  But promo packs are made for gimmicks.

Panini’s Black Friday Packs are in full swing.  Leaf’s Holiday Promo Packs are on the way.  I think its Christmas time!

Black Friday Packs Are Coming Back In 2012

Panini is a master when is comes to promos.  They’re one of the best card manufacturers to do so.  It’s as simple as that.  Last year their Black Friday promos were highly sought after by collectors.  Participating card shops saw great turnouts.  Panini plans to bring the Black Friday program back in 2012.  By purchasing certain Panini products at your local card shop or directly online from Panini will get you access to these special promo packs.  Last year Super Bowl pylon relics were the major highlight along with some great autographed cards.

Panini gave us a little preview of what’s to come for the 2012 Black Friday promotion.  No pictures of autographs or relics yet, but you can see what the 50-card base set and the various inserts will look like.  Check out The Knight’s Lance for more pictures.  If there is one thing Panini knows how to do, its giveaway great free stuff.
