Unboxing The Uncle’s Cards #2

Welcome to Part #2 of Unboxing The Uncle’s Cards.  Part #1 can be seen here.  This time around wasn’t quite as successful.  In reality, the best thing I found was $52.00 in loose quarters.  I did come across a handful of notable cards that aren’t worth too much because of their condition or they were just overproduced.  I’ve still got a bunch to go through.  No Honus Wagner T206s yet.

The Cardboard Connection Break – Part 3

Here is the conclusion to the giant box of cards I received from Mike Smeth from over at The Cardboard Connection.  The last row contained all Phillies ranging all the way back to 1957.  I’d also like to mention that he sent me a Brett Myers Just Minors autographed mini bat as well.

The Cardboard Connection Break – Part 2

Check out some of the highlights of my Part 2 box break that I received from The Cardboard Connection.  Lots of fun Phillies stuff!!!

The Cardboard Connection Break – Part 1

Mike Smeth of The Cardboard Connection sent over a large box of cards last week since we have decided to do a trade.  This afternoon I made my way through the first row of the box.  Along with a ton of base, I discovered some nice hits, including a ten year old one-of-one.  Tune in next week for Part 2!

2010 Topps Allen & Ginter Preview Part 2

Topps released a ton of info on 2010 Allen & Ginter today.  Just like other years, each box will yield 3 autographs, relics, printing plates, etc….  It looks like booklet cards have found their way into A&G too.  Of coarse collectors can look for rip cards and low numbered minis.  I would like to own a rip card someday, but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on one.  In the past, people have found ways to see inside the rip cards without opening them which is why I haven’t purchased one.  Anyway, these cards look really good and I might have to pick up a few singles.  Last year I was able to snag an Alexander Cartwright silk #’ed/10.

2008 Playoff Contenders SP List Part 2

Today Donruss/Playoff released the second part of the 2008 Playoff Contenders SP list.

  • Jed Collins #147 – 30 copies
  • Dantrell Savage #121 – 76 copies
  • Erik Ainge #136 – 108 copies
  • Peyton Hillis #184 – 113 copies
  • Malcolm Kelly #171 – 141 copies
  • Erin Henderson #137 – 158 copies
  • Jake Long #144 – 163 copies
  • Marcus Thomas #173 – 165 copies
  • Jordon Dizon #155 – 188 copies
  • Ali Highsmith #102 – 214 copies
  • Joe Flacco #151 – 220 copies
  • Jermichael Finley #148 – 231 copies
  • Andre Woodson #105 – 250 copies

The thing I never got about Contenders is why the prices of many of the unpopular autographed rookie cards shoot-up if they appear on the SP list?  All their other autographed cards, probably serial numbered to even less copies most likely sell for a smaller amount.  I personally would never bust a box of Playoff Contenders.  For me, its a really hit or miss product.  You could pull a big time rookie, but your most likely going to get four autographs of rookies you never heard about.
