Card of the Day: Joe Paterno 2013 Leaf Industry Summit Sketch Card
Sportkings Adds New ’12 NSCC Promo + Paterno Card Pulled
Sportkings has added an additional element to their 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention Premium Back Redemption Program. Any collector that spells the word “SPORTKINGS” using the Premium Back base cards found in Series E twenty-five times can have Jared Kelley paint them their own giant art card. This card will measure 2.5′ x 3.5′ and can be of your favorite Sportking. Personally, I’d pick Harry Kalas 🙂
Sportkings has also announced they will be pulling the Joe Paterno art card from their Premium Back Redemption Program. At this time, they didn’t think it would be good to include it due to the Penn State scandal.
Here are some of the other art cards you can obtain by spelling the word “SPORTKINGS” five times.

Paterno’s Press Pass Card Surfaces
This has to be one of the most valuable and rare Press Pass base cards ever created. Press Pass had to pull this Paterno card early during the manufacturing process and only a few found their way out onto the secondary market. Many had to be destroyed due to a licensing conflict. If your very lucky you might pull one from a box of ’97 Press Pass Football. Its not too often that one pops up for sale, so thats why I decided I would show it to you. One recently sold for just over $50.00. Thats not too bad for just being a base card.

Possible Paterno Relics Coming Soon?
Most likely not. Thats why two Penn State graduates paid $9,000.00 for an autographed pair of Joe Paterno’s glasses. Last month Paterno had eye surgery and he no longer needs those thick Coke bottle like glasses to see. You can read the whole story over on ESPN.
Joe Paterno doesn’t have a lot of cards for collectors to add to their collection. The cards he does have will hit your wallet hard because they are so rare and valuable. Last year Razor and Panini created a few cut signatures that sold well into the high hundreds. And if your looking to add an authentic 1950 Topps Felt Backs Paterno RC to your collection you better get ready to spend some big bucks. I think it would have been great if Press Pass, Upper Deck, Panini, or Topps would have purchased this pair of glasses to insert into a set. It wouldn’t be the first time a pair of glasses found their way into a pack. A few years ago Topps included the eyeglass frame once used by Woodrow Wilson into a pack of Triple Threads.

More SCI Custom Cards
I’ve been making more and more custom cards featuring the famous SCI blue square. Some of these cards have been making their way into the secondary market through trades and I just wanted to share all of my creations with you. If anyone has any suggestions for future cards, please let me know.

My Crack At A Custom Card
Love’em or hate’em, custom cards are a big part of The Hobby and there seems to be quite a little market for them. The other day I came across this seller who seems to be selling a ton of homemade college cards for basketball and football players/coaches. Custom cards are great as long as the seller informs the potential bidders that the card is homemade. I don’t like to see when scammers try to pass off a card they made as something made by a major manufacturer. After see the success that eBay seller has had, I decided to try and make my own custom card. I browsed through a bunch of photos I had taken and found a picture of the Joe Paterno statue that stands right outside of Beaver Stadium. Since Paterno has very few cards, I decided to use that image for my own card. I printed it on thick photo card stock and it would be great to use for an autograph if I ever met Paterno.
I even put the Sports Card Info blue square up in the corner.
