Flashback Product of the Week: ’95 Phil Rizzuto’s National Pastime

Did Phil Rizzuto invent the “Chrome” card?  Technically no he didn’t.  That award goes to 1993 Topps Finest with their introduction of the refractor.  But two years before the first release of Bowman Chrome, collectors were introduced to Phil Rizzuto’s National Pastime.  These boxes were some of the first to use the word “Chromium”.  Each box contains 36 packs and collectors can look for Phil Rizzuto autographs.  It never really took off and you can find boxes for well under $20.00 today.

Whats this? A free Joba Chamberlain jersey card?

If you live in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA area you are in for a real treat.  PNC Bank is doing a promotion where if you sign up for a free checking account with online banking you will receive a free set of 4 game used jersey cards.  These can only be obtained in person at your local PNC Bank branch.  The players in the set are: Shelley Duncan, Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, and Joba Chamberlain.  Each card in the set features a game worn jersey swatch of the player from one of their Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees uniforms.  Currently, none of these cards have surfaced anywhere online.  These will probably be hard to find after the promotion is over.  Too bad for me, I don’t live even close to a PNC Bank 😦  To read the full article from the Yankees, click here
