Pawn Stars Featured In 2012 Leaf Pop Century

One of my favorite shows to watch is Pawn Stars on the History Channel.  I enjoy learning the history behind a lot of the items featured on the show, plus the negotiating is fun to watch.  I know there have been some parts of the show that are made just for television, and who knows what happens to some of the items when they say “lets go do some paperwork”, but I like it.  Not too long ago, Brian Gray of Leaf did an autograph signing with the stars of the show.  Fans will be able to look for their autographs in 2012 Leaf Pop Century, due out at the end of June.

Leaf has really packed ’12 Pop Century with some great celebrity autographs such as Britney Spears, Sarah Palin, Jennifer Lopez, Tommy Lee, Donald Trump, Harrison Ford, and Ichiro.  Every box has (5) cards, each one being autographed.

Leaf has been up to a lot of things lately.  I’m excited to see what their “Peck & Snyder” product will be about.  Peck & Snyder was a sporting goods store that eventually turned into Spalding.  Their “postcard” size advertisement featuring the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings started the card collecting hobby.  Who knows what Leaf will do with this set.  They are also working on a product that is a tribute to the original 1990 Leaf set.  It will feature buyback autographed rookies of Frank Thomas I think.

Leaf Possibly Including Schwarzenegger Autos In 2012 Pop Century

I’m making a prediction.  I think Leaf plans to include autographs of Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2012 Pop Century.  Why do I believe this?  Last night they sent out the following message on Twitter:

“Just did a ridiculously cool deal for 2012 pop century.. I cannot say anything till the autos arrive.. But, I am pumped!!!”

The key words in that message are “cool deal” and “pumped”.  Schwarzenegger autographs would make a perfect fit for their Pop Century product.  His autos are in high-demand.  This 1997 Fleer/Skybox Batman and Robin Widevision Schwarzenegger autograph sells between $200.00 and $300.00.  His Conan the Barbarian cut signatures made by Rittenhouse can sell for even more when they surface.

Could I be looking into Leaf’s message too much?  Sure.  But it is fun to guess.  Let’s see if I’m right.

Michael Jackson Trading Cards

In today’s hobby, its not that common to see an entire product based on a single individual.  You might see it done with a certain team, but rarely with one person.  Back in the 80’s, manufacturers made all kinds of trading card sets for specific celebrities including Michael Jackson.  In 1984 Topps released a set based around the pop icon.  Each box contains 36 wax packs with 3 cards and 3 stickers per pack.  Later that year Topps released a 2nd series based around Jackson.  In a way these could be considered his “rookie” cards.  I would highly suggest not purchasing anything of Jackson right now because the prices are through the roof.  It would be better to wait until things calm down.

Currently Jackson has no relic or autographed cards floating around the secondary market.  With all those colorful outfits he wore, I’m sure they would make for some interesting relics to pull.  R.I.P the King of Pop.

Be sure to check out Cardboard Icons break of a box of Michael Jackson 1984 Topps.
