2014 Panini Prizm Baseball Box Break

Last weekend I received a box of 2014 Panini Prizm Baseball for my birthday.  Yesterday I finally had some time to open it.  A lot of collectors think of Prizm like a diet-Chrome.  I actually enjoy it more than opening a box of Bowman or Bowman Chrome.  It has fewer base cards and includes retired/HOF players.  My cards did come covered in that mysterious dust that Panini addressed is “organic press powder”.  Sure, my tabletop looked like that scene in Scarface when I had finished opening the box, but the powder wipes off easily.

Black Boxes Are Ready To Rock

Press Pass is ready!  Upper Deck is ready!  And by the looks of it Panini is getting ready as well.  When it comes to making promos and giveaways, Panini really takes the cake.  Their legendary Black Boxes are one of the main attractions during the annual Industry Summit.  This year will not be any different.  Attendees will find a shamrock-shaped Rated Rookie logo T-shirt inside their welcome bag.  Five random collectors will be awarded a Black Box early on Monday if you’re caught wearing this T-shirt.

Upon completion of Panini’s presentation on Tuesday, the rest of the Black Boxes will be distributed.  Whats in a Black Box you ask?  Every Black Box will contain a special Industry Summit exclusive autograph or relic.  Collectors will also find Industry Summit exclusive 2013 Select Football Green Prizm parallels.  Each of these parallels will be limited to 15 copies.  Promos made for specific events such as the Industry Summit that can be integrated within an already established card set like Select are a fantastic idea.

No word yet from Topps on what their Industry Summit promos will look like.  It wouldn’t surprise me if it has something to do with 2014 Topps Heritage that comes out very shortly.  But that’s just a guess.

2013-14 Panini Prizm Hockey Box Break & Review

Design: 

All I can say is that Prizm looks way better when you can use team names and logos.  No white box autographs is a plus too, and I enjoy all of the parallels Panini keeps making.

Price: 

Boxes are currently selling for $80.00.

“Hit” Quality: 

Just like the other Prizm products, you’re not going to see one “hit” after another.  This is for set collectors.  Each 20-pack box comes with (2) autographs, (2-3) parallels, and a handful of inserts.  The inclusion of veteran autographs along with the rookies was a good idea.

Overall: 

Overall, I give 2013-14 Prizm Hockey 3 goalie masks out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect).  Hockey collectors craving for a chrome-like product should enjoy it.  I believe Prizm Hockey/Basketball are far superior to football and baseball.
