This is actually a really good promo.  In the past, you had to open three boxes.

For those collectors that open a 16-box case of Series E at the Sportkings booth, you’ll receive a special Spectacular Patch card.

Sportkings will be redeeming “live” during the National.

Those who have already sent in the Premium Back Base Cards will have their cards redeemed at the Sportkings Booth before the National starts and collectors attending the National will be able to submit their Premium Base Back Cards at the Sportkings booth and pick up their Premium Back Redemption cards on site.

Press Pass Unveils 2012 National Promo Plans

Photobucket

Press Pass will not have a booth setup during the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore.  The week of The National, they will be moving into a new office.  Don’t worry, just because they can’t be there doesn’t mean collectors will miss out on the promos.  Press Pass has teamed up with select dealers in order to help execute their pack promotion and wrapper redemption program.  The list of select dealers will be announced prior to The National opening.

According to Press Pass, you will receive one promo pack for each box of 2012 NASCAR product purchased.  Eligible products include Press Pass, Total Memorabilia, Ignite, Redline, and Showcase.  Within each promo pack will be a National Exclusive Showcase parallel numbered to 5 or 1.  They will also randomly throw in relics and autographs.  For those die-hard NASCAR fans, this sounds pretty good.  Earlier this year, I stated that Press Pass would be giving away signed banners at their booth.  Since it doesn’t look like they will have a booth, I think the banners will be used for their Power Packs instant win program.

Sportkings Series E Premium Back Redemption Program

Photobucket

This year Sportkings Series E will have a premium back redemption program.  Inside each pack you will find one premium base card that contains a letter on the back.  For those collectors that collect all the letters and spell out the word “SPORTKINGS” you will be able to take part in this program.

Photobucket

  • Collect the cards that spell “SPORTKINGS” once, and you will receive a 1/10 Premium Sportkings Quad Memorabilia Card.
  • Collect the cards that spell “SPORTKINGS” twice, and you will receive a 1/1 Premium Sketch card.
  • Collect the cards that spell “SPORTKINGS” five times, and you will receive a 1/1 Premium Art Card painted by Jared Kelley.

Sportkings will need you to send in the premium base cards you’ve collected in order for you to qualify.  They will continue this program until June 30, 2013.

I think this is a great way to increase the value of their base cards.  Sportkings base cards always carry a premium, especially when they initially hit the secondary market, but this should help the value even more.  At least until the program ends.  The only bad thing about this is that you will not receive your base cards back.  For address information on where you should send your premium base cards, click here.  Sportkings will release a checklist of all the cards involved within this program before Series E comes out.

Sportkings Series E will release on May 3, 2012.  This afternoon they announced the base card checklist.  I’m looking forward to seeing the cut signature checklist.  They have a section called “Top 50 Broadcasters” and I’m hoping former Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas is included.  I love the artwork on these cards.

Panini’s 2011 National Wrapper Redemption Program

One of the best things about the National are the wrapper redemption programs that go on at many of the manufacturer’s booths.  Panini has showed off what some of their wrapper redemption “hits” look like for this year.  Of coarse there will be parallels and autographs.  There are even randomly inserted cards that can be redeemed for autographed memorabilia.  Panini has one of the better redemption programs at the National.  To get one of these exclusive packs, you usually have to open a box or a certain number of packs at their booth.  Last year I pulled two John Wall rookies from them.

The 2010 Bowman Chrome Baseball Wrapper Redemption Program

Photobucket

Alright you prospecting prodigies, get ready for the Topps 2010 Bowman Chrome Wrapper Redemption Program.  For every (18)  hobby wrappers sent in to Topps, collectors will receive and exclusive 5-card pack containing black bordered parallels of 2010 Bowman Baseball.  All 110 prospects from 2010 Bowman are included.  Within this exclusive pack, collectors can also look for the following:

  • 37-card USA Baseball Bowman Chrome Black Bordered Autographs #’d to 25…featuring the 2010 Collegiate National Team and the 2010 18U National Team.
  • 5-card Bowman Chrome Rookies & Prospects Autographs #’d to 100… Featuring Buster Posey, Mike Stanton, Mike Moustakas, Miguel Sano and Dustin Ackley.
  • And because of a production error, the previously announced Autographed 2010 Bowman Chrome USA BUYBACK program will now be included as part of this wrapper redemption.  Cards will be sequentially numbered with foil stamping to 100 and will include Bryce Harper, James Taillon, Yasmani Grandal, Drew Pomeranz, Michael Choice, Christian Colon, Manny Machado and Bryce Brentz.

The deadline for this program is 3/31/2011.  All wrappers must be mailed to:

PO Box 2230
Duryea, PA 18642
ATTN: Bowman Chrome Promotion

I’m not much of a prospecting collector.  You’ll never see me open a box of Chrome or DP&P.  There is just too much hype on players that may never see a big league field.  I don’t think the hobby needs two Bowman prospecting products each year.  One would be enough.  I love redemption programs like this, but this is one I won’t be taking part in.

I Think Topps Chrome Baseball Is Irrelevant

This morning Topps released some new info on 2010 Topps Chrome Baseball.  Topps has created a new wrapper redemption program where for every 24 (Hobby) wrappers sent in, the collector will receive a special pack of Topps Chrome Rookies & Legends variation cards.  Every tenth pack will contain special refractor versions.  Each pack will contain 3 cards.  Check out the checklist:

  • Jason Heyward
  • Austin Jackson
  • Stephen Strasburg
  • Mike Leake
  • Buster Posey
  • Starlin Castro
  • Ike Davis
  • Carlos Santana
  • Mike Stanton
  • Tyler Colvin
  • Babe Ruth
  • Lou Gehrig
  • Jackie Robinson
  • Ty Cobb
  • Mickey Mantle

I have a little bone to pick with Topps Chrome Baseball.  I just don’t think The Hobby needs it.  If it contained “First Year” cards I could see the need for it, but many “Rookies” in this product have had earlier cards made already.  I can see the need for Bowman and Bowman Chrome, but not a Topps set and a Topps Chrome set.

Panini’s 2010 National Wrapper Redemption Program

Any collector who opens 5 packs of any current NFL or NBA Panini product at their booth during this year’s National will receive a free pack of cards.  These cards will be exclusive to The National.  You can find players from the NBA such as:  LeBron James, Brandon Jennings, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Tyreke Evans.

From the NFL you can look for:  Adrian Peterson, Brett Favre, C.J. Spiller, Colt McCoy, Dez Bryant, Drew Brees, Joe Flacco, Peyton Manning, Ray Rice, Ryan Matthews, Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Tony Romo and Tom Brady.

From the NHL:  Sidney Crosby, Ryan Miller, Jonathan Toews, Henrik Sedin, Alex Ovechkin and Jose Theodore.

Collectors can look for multiple parallels and autographs too.  There is also a chance of finding instant win cards that are redeemable for signed 8×10 Prestige rookies.

As of right now, Panini, Upper Deck, and Sportkings will be the top booths to check out this year (at least for me).  Still no word on what type of redemption programs Topps will have.

Sportkings At The 2010 National

Sportkings plan to attend this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore.  They are bringing back their box top redemption program too.  Any collector who opens three boxes of Sportkings Series D will receive a special redemption card either numbered out of ten or a 1/1.

I’ve never opened a box of Sportkings before, mainly because of the price.  These boxes can be quite expensive.  I do like the look of these 2010 National redemption cards.  The painted images look really nice and fit the cards much better than no image at all.
