Panini Shows Off An Early Look At 2014 NSCC Wrapper Redemption Set

We’re only 24 days away from the opening of the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland.  Things are starting to heat up.  You know me, I’m all about free stuff and that’s one of the best things about the National.

Panini has given us collectors a small glimpse as to what we’ll find inside those coveted wrapper redemption packs.  Right now all we’re getting to see are base cards.  For more pictures check out The Knight’s Lance.  Panini plans to bring back their popular VIP Party which you’ll most likely need to spend a few thousand dollars on product if you want to attend.  They’ll also have autograph guests at their booth too.  In my experience, Panini’s wrapper redemption programs aren’t something you need to rush through the door to participate in like some of the stuff you see with Topps.  Panini usually holds their programs at specific times.  Watch the lines!!!  Collectors have been known to lineup 2 hours ahead of time.

Press Pass Readies VIP Set & Wrapper Redemption Program For The 2014 National

 photo vippresspass14_zps4aa9ac98.jpg

VIPs attending the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland this year will find a 5-card set in their package thanks to Press Pass.  The set will include Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson.

Collectors can also take part in Press Pass’s wrapper redemption program too.  In order to participate, all you need to do is purchase a hobby box of 2014 Press Pass NASCAR cards ON THE SHOW FLOOR (sounds like they might be using a voucher program like Upper Deck has done in the past).  In return, you’ll receive a single-card, blind-packaged pack that will contain either a special National exclusive Redline parallel #’ed to 5 or an autographed card.  All of this takes place at the Beckett booth.  That makes me wonder if Press Pass will even have a booth of their own.  I guess we’ll see.

Michael Sam Mail Call

 photo sam14ppauto_zpsa13ab09b.jpg

Look what the mail man dropped off today.  Its my Michael Sam 2014 Press Pass Blue Ink Auto #’ed/50.  While supplies last Press Pass will send these out to collectors who mail in the UPC code off their box of 2014 Press Pass Football.  I’m not sure how they determine who gets one numbered to 10, 50, 99, or just the base.  It could be random or perhaps the earlier people to send in their code might get a lower numbered card.  I sent mine in about a week after the product was released.  It sure didn’t take long to arrive.

Topps Comes Through With HK Cut Signature Redemption

Lately Topps hasn’t been receiving the best feedback from collectors when it comes to their redemption cards.  Many are left out in the cold for months (sometimes years) wondering when they’ll get that card they’re due.  Unfortunately for some collectors the wait ends up in a total disaster.  They’ll get that bubble mailer in the mail, rip it open, only to find a replacement card not worth nearly as much as the card they were originally promised.  I don’t know what to say, other than they need a better system with improved communication.  An official Topps blog would be nice.

I rarely redeem redemption cards, let alone buy one.  But I certainly didn’t have a choice when someone posted the Harry Kalas 2013 Topps Series 1 Chasing History Cut Signature redemption for sale back in May.  Normally this is something I would never do, but I thought I’d take a chance on it.  My thinking was this.  Harry Kalas passed away back in 2009, and Topps didn’t have to chase him down for an autograph like they have to with many living players they issue redemptions for.  It was good enough logic for me to pull the trigger on the card.  After seeing that the Babe Ruth cut signature from 2013 Topps Series 1 was shipped, I was hoping the status on my card might change, and that’s exactly what happened a few days ago.

Here it is.  The Harry Kalas 2013 Topps Series 1 One-Of-One Chasing History Cut Signature.  He doesn’t have many cards, and this is one of the rarest for the former Phillies broadcaster/announcer.  Kalas rarely has cards appear in products, and that makes it even a bigger deal for me when I hear he is going to be included within something.  I have all of my Harry Kalas cards uploaded to Sports Card Album.  One of these days I’d like to get much more uploaded, as I have boxes full of relics and autographs I wouldn’t mind trying to sell.  Plus some other stuff I’d just like to show off.  At least this redemption card story has a happy ending.

I’m still looking for the following HK cards:

  • Harry Kalas 1984 Tastykake Phillies Broadcasters #7
  • Harry Kalas/Gary Maddox/Richie Ashburn 1988 Phillies Tastykake Phillies Announcers #39
  • Harry Kalas/Chris Wheeler/Andy Musser 1990 Phillies Tastykake Phillies Announcers #35
  • 2004 Fleer Greats of the Game Mike Schmidt/Harry Kalas Announcing Greats Dual Auto #’ed/25
  • Harry Kalas 2004 UD Sweet Spot Classic Signatures Auto Black #’ed/100
  • Harry Kalas 2005 UD Sweet Spot Classic Signatures Auto Black Stitch #’ed/1
  • Harry Kalas 2005 UD Sweet Spot Classic Signatures Auto Red-Blue Stitch #’ed/40
  • Harry Kalas Sportkings Premium Back Redemption Sketches #’ed/1
  • Harry Kalas Sportkings Series E Top 50 Broadcasters Cut Signature #’ed/1

Gloves & Sweat Soaked Towels Highlight Panini’s NSCC Relic Promos

Have you gotten in line yet?  You better or your not going to get any of these prized Panini promo packs.  I’m already camped out inside the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center waiting for Panini to show up.  I’ve got my boxes, food, water, and smartphone.  I think I can wait it out until Wednesday night.  I guess in the mean time we’ll just have to settle for these new images Panini released today teasing us of what is to come next week during the 2013 National Sports Collectors Convention.  Enjoy!

Horrors of War II 2013 NSCC Redemption Program

For all you history buffs attending the National, Famous Fabrics has something special for you.  Collectors opening a 10-box case of Horrors of War II at the Famous Fabrics booth will receive a coupon for a special 1/1 Art Relic card of their choice that will be made after the show.  Collectors can choose a personality they would like sketched on the card and Famous Fabrics will add an authentic relic from the corresponding conflict.  This promotion is another high-end one for collectors to take part in.  A 10-box case of Horrors of War II can run just over $2,000.00.

Sportkings Series F 34th National Redemption Program Details

As far as bang for your buck, I believe Sportkings has one of the better box break redemption programs for the National.  For the price of one box of Sportkings Series F that collectors break at the In The Game booth, you’ll receive a specially made relic card just for the 34th NSCC.  These cards will contain single, double, and triple pieces of memorabilia.  Each card will have 19 silver versions and 1 gold.

If you’re a real high-roller and decide to open a 16-box case of Sportkings Series F at the In The Game booth, you’ll receive a 1/1 Spectacular Patch made just for the NSCC.

Upper Deck Releases Their Promo Plans For The 34th National

Earlier this week Upper Deck gave us a peak at their 6-card set that VIPs attending the 2013 National Sports Collectors Convention would receive.  Now we get into the real meat and potatoes – Upper Deck’s wrapper redemption programs.

Although I don’t see any special Precious Metal Gems parallels or Animal Kingdom patch cards being made, Upper Deck seems to have a whole bunch of activities planned.

Wrapper Redemption Program – Collectors just need to purchase five (5) packs of 2013 SPx Football2013 Upper Deck Football (Hobby)2012-13 SP Authentic Basketball2012-13 NHL SP Authentic or 2013 Goodwin Champions OR two (2) packs of 2012 Fleer Retro Football2012-13 NHL Fleer Retro or 2012-13 Fleer Retro Basketball to receive one (1) 2013 Upper Deck National Sports Collectors Convention Pack.  These five (5) card packs must be purchased from a Certified Diamond Dealer who will provide collectors with an Upper Deck issued voucher for the redemption program.  The program will begin at different times each day starting on Thursday and run as long as supplies last.  Collectors can take advantage of the promotion up to four times per person, per day.

Here is the schedule:

  • Thursday (12 p.m.): Rory McIlroy, Mark McGwire, Troy Glaus, Jonathan Toews, Cheyenne Woods
  • Friday (10 a.m.): LeBron James, Tony Cingrani, Wayne Gretzky, Tony Gwynn, Brandon Saad
  • Saturday (10 a.m.): Tiger Woods, Bobby Hull, Reggie Jackson, Pete Incaviglia, Ken Griffey Jr.
  • Sunday (10 a.m.): Michael Jordan, Frank Thomas, Patrick Kane, Darryl Strawberry, Jim Abbott

Collectors can look for randomly inserted autographs too.

Case Breaker Promotion – Based on the success of the case breaker promotion at the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention, Upper Deck will bring the program back for 2013 with 25 high-end items available to fans looking to open cases of the company’s Fleer Retro brands.  Collectors can open a sealed six (6) box case of 2012-13 Fleer Retro Basketball, 2012-13 Fleer Retro NHL or 2013 Fleer Retro Football without waiting in any lines at any time throughout the show to receive the following:

  • (20) 2013 Upper Deck National Sports Collectors Convention Packs (4 packs from each day)
  • (1) Case Breaker Raffle Ticket good for a random memorabilia item, trading card or one of five (5) Michael Jordan autograph cards produced exclusively for the National Sports Collectors Convention.  The item selected will be immediately available to the participant.

As with the other wrapper redemption promotions, the product must be purchased from a Certified Diamond Dealer at the show who provides the collector with an Upper Deck issued voucher.  Collectors can open up to one case, per person, per day at the show.  This promotion is limited to the first 25 collectors to take part in the promotion.

Expired Redemption Raffle – It was just last year Upper Deck rolled out the first-ever expired redemption raffle at the National Sports Collectors Convention and it was a tremendous success so it will be back in 2013. Collectors and store owners may bring up to five (5) unscratched, expired Upper Deck autograph redemption cards to the Upper Deck Corporate Booth by Saturday, August 3 before 10:30 a.m. to take part in the program.  Those who wish to participate DO NOT need to attend the trade show.  Collectors and shop owners can send in up to five (5) unscratched, expired Upper Deck autograph redemption cards to the address below to participate as well.

The Upper Deck Company
Attn. The Upper Deck Expired Redemption Raffle Program
2251 Rutherford Road
Carlsbad, CA 92008

Collectors who send in their cards need to legibly write their name, address, phone number and email address to the front of the expired Upper Deck redemption card (in the white area) in black or blue ink.  Cards not received in time for this event will be carried over to the next Expired Redemption Raffle.  Upper Deck will have 100 PRIZES available in this raffle consisting mostly of limited autograph cards, memorabilia cards, unopened boxes and signed promotional items from Upper Deck Authenticated.

What cards are eligible for The Upper Deck Expired Redemption Raffle Program?

  • Expired redemption cards must have been manufactured by Upper Deck (legal copy on the back of the redemption card will indicate if it was produced by Upper Deck or not).  Redemption cards from other manufacturers will NOT BE HONORED.
  • Expired redemption cards must be modern-era redemptions with a scratch off code that has not been scratched.  Older redemption cards without a scratch off code are not eligible for this promotion.
  • Expired redemption cards must be for an autograph trading card or signed memorabilia item.  Redemption cards for unsigned draft picks, rookie cards, regular cards or memorabilia cannot be honored.  Additionally, expired sweepstakes offers are not valid for this promotion either.

Upper Deck also has some more activities going on as well, plus some unannounced surprises.  For more information be sure to check out the official Upper Deck Blog.
