I would normally review a box like this on all the usual factors – Design, Price, “Hit” Quality, and Overall. But in all honesty, the 2014 version of Redline Racing is barely any different from what we’ve seen already. Nothing new at all.
Auto/Relic
Denny Hamlin Dynamic Duals Sheet Metal/Firesuit Red Ink Auto #’ed/50
Auto
Dale Jarrett Redline Signatures Red Ink Auto #’ed/15
Relics
Michael McDowell Redline Relics Firesuit #’ed/25
Jimmie Johnson Redline Relics Firesuit #’ed/50
Marcos Ambrose Pieces Of The Action Sheet Metal/Firesuit/Glove #’ed/25
Congrats to Monster18 on being the lucky winner of the Justin Allgaier 2013 Press Pass Redline Red Ink Auto #’ed/95. Once Monster18 sends me their mailing address, I will ship this card ASAP. Thanks!
The Redline brand has some nicely designed cards, but there are so many similarities between 2012 and 2013. As far as design goes, there really isn’t that much of a difference. The on-card autographs are some of Press Pass’s best looking. Some of the cards do contain white box signatures, but the ones like you see pictured below really came out well. I like it whenever an autograph overlaps onto the driver’s picture or the Press Pass logo. One thing Press Pass did add was a QR code to the back of each base card. If you scan it with a smartphone it will take you to NASCAR.com and give you more information on the driver. This is the first I’ve seen QR codes directly on the cards.
Price:
Boxes are currently selling for $120.00. Moving towards the high-end a bit.
“Hit” Quality:
Press Pass decided to throw in a bonus “hit” for 2013. Every box should contain (5) “hits” within it’s (2) packs.
I pulled the following:
Auto/Relic
Dale Jarrett Remarkable Relics – Firesuit/Glove/Shoe Red Ink Auto #’ed/88
Auto
Justin Allgaier Red Ink Auto #’ed/95
Relics
Dale Earnhardt Jr Glove #’ed/50
Kasey Kahne Pieces of the Action – Firesuit/Sheet Metal/Tire #’ed/75
Ryan Newman Muscle Car Memorabilia 2-Color Sheet Metal #’ed/50
Parallels
Brad Keselowski #’ed/50
Denny Hamlin #’ed/99
Inserts
Kasey Kahne Intensity #6
Tony Stewart RPM #6
Jimmie Johnson Racers #7
Overall:
Overall, I give 2013 Press Pass Redline Racing 3.5 tires out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect). The design is quite similar to last year’s set. It seems like Press Pass is taking the same approach to Redline like Topps did with Triple Threads for the first few years. Racing fans should enjoy it as it offers a quick thrill with only having two packs.
Press Pass has been the leading manufacturer of NASCAR cards since the 90’s. Their NASCAR stuff is their main source of income along with their entertainment and football products. Back in the 90’s, Upper Deck produced a bunch of NASCAR products that were very well done. But today Press Pass has the hold on the NASCAR card market and has little competition. Its this lack of competition that I believe is preventing NASCAR collectors from seeing newly innovated designs. I don’t know about you, but I keep seeing the same stuff over and over again. I want to see some innovation. Press Pass has a great selection of drivers, and I would like to see them presented to us in a new way. Upper Deck has their Shadow Box cards, Topps uses vintage and simple designs, but Press Pass needs something. What they are making doesn’t look bad at all, its just been done so many times before. In the end, competition is always good for the collector as long as the manufacturer is listening to its customers.
Here is our first look at 2013 Redline Racing. Its a quick thrill product with only two packs per box and four “hits”. Be sure to look for short-printed signature variation autographs featuring alternate photos of drivers.
Congrats to Lukas Ham on being the lucky winner of the Matt Kenseth 2012 Press Pass Redline Full Throttle Race-Used Firesuit/Sheet-Metal Relic #’ed/75. Once Lukas Ham sends me their mailing address, I will ship this card ASAP. Thanks!

Redline is a new brand from Press Pass that has a nice high-end feel to it. The 50-card base set features all black borders, but lets face it, collectors aren’t buying this for the base set. This is 2012 man. Nobody wants base cards 🙂 The black does look good though, except it will show chipping.
I think the Color Proof parallels could have been done differently. The entire card doesn’t need to be a certain color. Press Pass could have just made the Redline logo or the border a different color. I’m not a big fan of Color Proofs. Topps did something similar with their Heritage Minor League product. I don’t think the parallel type should interfere with the photo.
Price:
Boxes are currently selling for $133.00.
“Hit” Quality:
Each 2-pack tin contain (4) “hits”. That’s (2) “hits” per pack. Every tin should have at least (1) auto/relic. I pulled the following:

Auto
Ryan Newman Red Ink Auto #’ed/25
Relics
Trevor Bayne Race-Used Firesuit #’ed/15

Inserts
Kyle Busch Intensity #1

Dale Earnhardt, Jr #12
Mark Martin #25
Richard Petty #49
Overall:
Overall, I give 2012 Press Pass Redline 4 checkered flags out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect). Its a decent product to add to their lineup, and looks really nice.
I wish Press Pass would upgrade their redemption cards. They don’t insert many, but placing an Avery label over an unsigned card just isn’t that secure. Anyone could print up a label like that and smack it on a base card in order to scam someone that might not be 100% sure what they are looking at.
