Lancaster Barnstormers vs. Bridgeport Bluefish – 5/30/15

Every summer I try and get to a handful of minor league games.  Specifically on days they’re giving out bobbleheads.  This year I’ve got tickets for the Williamsport Crosscutters, Harrisburg Senators, State College Spikes, and the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.  On the day I go see the Iron Pigs they aren’t giving out bobbleheads, but I’ve never been to Coca-Cola Park before.  So that will be a whole new experience for me.

The Lancaster Barnstormers give out great bobbleheads.  They aren’t always of players, managers, and/or mascots related to the team either.  Many times their bobbleheads focus on historical or famous individuals from the Lancaster area.  On Saturday, May 30th the Barnstormers gave out bobbleheads of Robert Fulton to the first 1,000 fans.

Robert Fulton was born in Little Britain, PA which is located in the southern portion of Lancaster.  He is credited with inventing the first commercially successful steamboat called Clermont.  Fulton was also commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte to design the Nautilus, which was one of the first usable submarines in history.  Early torpedoes used by the British Royal Navy were another invention of his.

The Barnstormers have two more bobblehead nights this year.  On July 18th they will be giving out bobbleheads of golfer Jim Furyk.  Johnny Weir bobbleheads will be given out on July 31st.  While I was there, I picked up a new pin for my collection too.  They should be getting a few more new pins in later this season.  Lancaster won 10-0 that night.

Press Pass Shows Off Some More RGIII & Luck ’12 Showcase Booklets

This afternoon Press Pass decided to show off some more of the Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck autographed jumbo patch booklets that can be found in 2012 Showcase.  There may be no NCAA logos, but they sure look nice.  Every box of 2012 Showcase comes with (6) autographs and (1) jersey card.

2012 Press Pass Rookie Football Preview

Photobucket

Ever since Press Pass didn’t get their college license renewed, I haven’t been too thrilled about their football products.  This year they are going to kick it up a notch by making football versions of their popular NASCAR products such as FanFare and Showcase.  I think they’ll do well, but not as good as a product that can take advantage of college logos.  They could take a play out of Leaf’s book, and make a unique product that is made from a totally different perspective where logos don’t matter.  2012 Press Pass Rookie Football probably isn’t a product like that, but rest assured these autographs will be hot when they first come out.

In a press release, Press Pass stated they have signed Andrew Luck to an exclusive autograph agreement.  Press Pass will be the only manufacturer to have Andrew Luck unlicensed autographs.  Don’t worry, Luck will be in all the licensed college and NFL stuff.  Exclusives for unlicensed cards isn’t that big of a deal anyway.  As soon as the licensed stuff hits the secondary market, unlicensed cards take a major dive.  Exclusive or not, that’s what happens.  The last time I checked, Leaf was planning to have Luck cards too.  Leaf has a loop-hole though.  They don’t have a collegiate or NFL license, but they can use U.S. Army All-American photos.

2012 Press Pass Rookie Football is due out on March 21st.  Each box will contain (6) autographs.  FanFare, due out on May 9th, will have an autograph in each pack.  The base autographs will be featured on “chromium” technology.  I hope this looks something like Leaf Metal or the base cards found in 2009 Press Pass Stealth.  Showcase, which will be released in June, will feature the high-end type of “hits” you would find in their NASCAR product.
