Pete Falcone Likes Baseball Cards

This afternoon I was going through my base card boxes pulling out Red Sox cards for a trade, and I came across this card.

 Photobucket

Its a Pete Falcone 1982 Fleer #524 and it caught my eye because he is sitting there opening up some packs.  This is the first time I have ever seen a baseball player pictured on a card doing this and I thought it was really interesting.  I doubt many players today would be seen doing this when entering the locker room.  Falcone played for the Giants, Cardinals, Mets, and Braves posting a career 70-90 record.  I’d like to see more players pictured like this, even if it is just for the photo.

With all the high-priced products out on the market today, pro athletes might be the only people left that can afford packs to open.

Host Hotels for March Philly Show

I just received an e-mail from Paul Kutch, who is the Show Manager for the Philadelphia Sports Card and Memorabilia Show.  They were able to negotiate cheaper room rates for vendors and guests of the show.  Check out the e-mail below.  Remember that the show is March 13-15, 2009 at the Valley Forge Convention Center.

“Hi Everyone,

I had a meeting with the Valley Forge Convention Center earlier in the week.  After a discussion with them regarding the room rate in the two host hotels that are attached to the convention center, I was able to negotiate a much better room rate for vendors and guests of the show.  The original rate they gave us was $129/night.  If you contact them at the information provided below you can obtain a Room rate of $89/night plus tax for either the Radisson or the Scanticon hotels.  Be sure to tell them that you are part of the Sports Collectibles show to obtain this rate.

The packets are being finalized in regards to things such as electric, banner hanging, phones, etc.  I should have them out to everyone shortly.
