Interesting Signature Change

Atlanta Braves rookie center fielder Jordan Schafer didn’t make much of an impression in Major League Baseball this year.  He started off red hot after hitting a home run in his first Major League at bat off of Brett Myers in April, but in June he was sent back down to the minors after only hitting .204.  I have no idea why I recognized this, but Schafer’s signature on his cards have really changed since a facsimile appeared on his ’05 Bowman rookies.  For some crazy reason Schafer now puts two lines through his signature.  Its not uncommon for players to change their signatures over the years, but I wonder why he puts the lines through now?  Maybe he doesn’t even like his own autograph.

Hello Mr. Schafer

Well the Phillies lost their season opener last night to the Braves 4-1.  I guess my dream of them winning 162 games is out the window 🙂  The Phillies have lost 8 out of their last 9 season openers.  The Braves played really well and their rookie Jordan Schafer sure had a great game.  Schafer became the 99th player in MLB history to hit a homer during his first at bat.  As you can imagine his cards have started to really take off in price.  Before the game his stuff was selling well, but now its even better.  Schafer’s most popular prospect cards come from the already notable 2005 Bowman Chrome Draft set.  Recently he has been featured in Donruss’s 2008 Threads set.
