2013 Press Pass Showcase Football Preview

 photo 2013-press-pass-showcase-football-875_zps51f39fd9.jpg

I know its no Five Star or Exquisite, but you have to give Press Pass some credit for continuing to release their football products.  2013 Press Pass Showcase will have (6) on-card autographs and (1) jersey card per pack.  Press Pass has also taken the Leaf approach to things and will include cut signatures of Andrew Luck and RGIII.  Hey, they wouldn’t be making it if the products didn’t sell.

We all know that NASCAR is Press Pass’s bread and butter, but I’m glad to hear that they plan to expand into more entertainment products.  Press Pass will be making a Parks and Recreation set this year, and they even announced that Five Star Racing will be making a comeback.  Five Star Racing was introduced to collectors in 2010 and was the most expensive racing product ever produced.  Boxes sold for about $500.00.

Some More Pictures Of 2012 Press Pass Showcase Racing

Press Pass released a few new pictures of 2012 Showcase that hits shelves later this summer.  You have to admit, the white backgrounds really make the relics and autographs pop.

Press Pass Shows Off Some More RGIII & Luck ’12 Showcase Booklets

This afternoon Press Pass decided to show off some more of the Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck autographed jumbo patch booklets that can be found in 2012 Showcase.  There may be no NCAA logos, but they sure look nice.  Every box of 2012 Showcase comes with (6) autographs and (1) jersey card.

2012 Press Pass Showcase Racing Sneak Peek

Photobucket

Press Pass let this little preview of 2012 Showcase Racing sneak out of the office today.  Don’t worry, those blank areas will get signed.  Hopefully not with an autopen 🙂  Lots of white background will make those relics and signatures pop! There are three packs per box with one premium auto or relic inside each pack.  New for this year you will find:

  • Showcase Signature Patches – autographed booklet cards containing an authentic sponsor patch #’ed/2
  • Richard Petty 75th Birthday Inscription Tribute Autos – top drivers inscribe their birthday wishes to Richard Petty who turns 75 this July
  • Showcase Champions Ink – autographed relics from six of the greatest champions in NASCAR history

RGIII & Andrew Luck Booklets Highlight Showcase Football

Photobucket Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Press Pass may not have the rights to use NCAA logos, but these booklets look very cool.  I’ve seen Press Pass make booklets for their NASCAR products, but this is a first for football.  Showcasewill feature (6) autographs and (1) jersey card per pack.  Every autograph will be serial numbered, and the base signatures will be printed on a plastic-like card stock.

Yes!!!  They are real patches, not manufactured.

Preview: 2012 Press Pass Showcase Football

Before Five Star Racing came around, Showcase was Press Pass’s highest-end product you could bust.  This June Press Pass is going to try and bring that high-end appeal to football collectors by releasing Showcase Football.  Every pack will contain (6) autographs and (1) relic.  The base autographs will be featured on a plastic technology.  You gotta love all this technology 🙂  I’d like to see Press Pass include redemptions for full-size memorabilia again.

Collectors’ Showcase of America Show – 11/12/11

Today I attended the Collectors’ Showcase of America show that was held at The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center which is in Oaks, PA.  After hearing a few good things about it during the last Philly Show, I decided to give it a shot.

The layout is nicer than what the Philly Show has turned into.  There is a lot more space and it reminds me of The Fort Washington Expo Center or The Greater Reading Expo Center.  When I arrived, it wasn’t that crowed.  But I got there shortly after it opened.  Some of the dealers I talked to were disappointed because people weren’t spending money.  As the day went on, more people showed-up.  The food is better and you can at least close the bathroom stall doors.  The walk in is much shorter too.

I saw a lot of nice singles, mostly vintage, but I did see some dealers that had modern stuff.  Nothing really jumped out at me though.  Every time I see a glass case filled with Phillies stuff I’m hoping to find one of those Harry Kalas cards I don’t have, but rarely does it happen.  I picked-up some supplies and three boxes.  I was hoping to find some 2011 Leaf Valiant and 2011 Leaf Pete Rose Legacy, but didn’t find any.  Instead I bought a box of 2011 Leaf Sports Icons, 2011 Leaf Metal Draft Baseball, and 2010 Panini Century Collection.  I still have to bust the Metal Draft Baseball.  I’m hoping for an Ichiro redemption.  I will blog about what I pulled later this weekend.  Marty’s Sports Card Exchange usually has the best prices on wax when it comes to these shows.

I got recognized again by a Sports Card Info reader.  I always find this funny.  Its a small ego boost 🙂  That’s something I never thought would happen when I started Sports Card Info.  I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name, but if your reading this please let me know what it is an how you made out at the show.

Overall, I thought it was a good show.  I don’t think I’ll get there as early next time.

JIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has to be one of my favorite in-person autographs I’ve ever gotten.  As soon as I heard that Jimmy Rollins was going to be there I had to go.  This is his first show appearance in 10 years.  I hope this isn’t one of his ways of saying goodbye to Phillies fans.

Papale was the inspiration for the movie Invincible starring Mark Wahlberg.  I think he looks like Tommy-Lee Jones.

PREVIEW: 2011 Press Pass Showcase

Looks to me like Press Pass bought some of Panini’s excess foil-board they had laying around 🙂  Collectors can look for 2011 Showcase in July.  There are three packs per box, each pack containing a “hit”.

The design stood out to me when I saw these images for the first time.  I know seeing sales sheet images and the actual cards in person are two different things, but I like the white backgrounds on some of them.  Sometimes a manufacturer can over design a product, which can make the cards look too busy.  Having a plain colored background draws more attention to the autographs/relics, and with a high-end product like Showcase thats exactly what you want collectors to be looking at.  I’m sure these cards will look much shinier in-hand.
