Jamie Cooper Shows Off Latest MLB Painting

Jamie Cooper recently showed off a portion of his latest masterpiece.  The artist behind the Phillies and Yankees Dream Scenes has been working on a painting for a private collector in the United States.  This piece takes place in 1933 at Comiskey Park, which is the site of the very first All-Star Game.  Over twenty of this private collector’s favorite baseball players will be featured in this painting.  Players include Mickey Mantle, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, and Hank Aaron.  I haven’t heard yet whether or not prints will be made available.  When the painting is complete, I’ll be sure to share a picture.

Outside of his U.S. projects, Jamie Cooper has been quite busy.  He recently did a series of caricatures which were used for an Australian Football League card product.  The caricatures were printed in 3D, and fall 1:60 packs.  I would highly suggest U.S. card companies to give his work a look.  I believe he could make some interesting looking stuff for American sports cards.  Next on his plate is a Dream Scene for the Spanish soccer club Atlético Madrid.

You can now purchase prints directly from Jamie Cooper’s shop.  His prints make great gifts.  Go buy something!!!

Panini Shows Off An Early Look At 2014 NSCC Wrapper Redemption Set

We’re only 24 days away from the opening of the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland.  Things are starting to heat up.  You know me, I’m all about free stuff and that’s one of the best things about the National.

Panini has given us collectors a small glimpse as to what we’ll find inside those coveted wrapper redemption packs.  Right now all we’re getting to see are base cards.  For more pictures check out The Knight’s Lance.  Panini plans to bring back their popular VIP Party which you’ll most likely need to spend a few thousand dollars on product if you want to attend.  They’ll also have autograph guests at their booth too.  In my experience, Panini’s wrapper redemption programs aren’t something you need to rush through the door to participate in like some of the stuff you see with Topps.  Panini usually holds their programs at specific times.  Watch the lines!!!  Collectors have been known to lineup 2 hours ahead of time.

Press Pass Shows Off 2014 Industry Summit Promos

Given that the 2014 Industry Summit is held in mid-March, it makes perfect sense for Press Pass’s promos to be pre-draft football related.  For those lucky collectors who plan on attending, check out some of the promos Press Pass plans to distribute.  It wouldn’t surprise me if they threw in a few autographed versions too like they have in the past.

Diminished Capacity Trailer

This morning I was looking at movie trailers on YouTube and came across one called “Diminished Capacity”.  After viewing the trailer, I couldn’t believe that they made a movie about card collecting.  The main focus of the movie looks to be around a T206 Wildfire Schulte baseball card.  You get to see the characters go to card shows and interact with dealers.  I love the fact there is a character in the movie that kinda represents Mr. Mint.  Its funny to see them realize how much sports cards are worth in today’s hobby.  I can’t wait for this movie to come out.  It stars Matthew Broderick, Allen Alda, and a wide range of great actors.  You know, the T206 Wildfire Schulte thats at the center of this movie looks very familiar.  In fact, I think I have one sitting on my shelf.  Very cool to see a card you own in a movie, even though the one in the movie looks to be a reprint.  Check out the trailer below.
