“Pin-Up” of the Week: 2013 MLB World Series Press Pins

 photo 2013wspresspins_zpsa3704b6c.jpg

Boston did it again last night.  They went on to win the 2013 World Series.  I wonder if Bobby Valentine was watching?  Former Phillie Shane Victorino got it started with a bases loaded blast off the Green Monster, while Big Pappi went on to be the M.V.P.  Its the first time the Red Sox have won the World Series on their home field in 95 years.

The World Series has a lot of merchandise.  Just ask QVC and HSN.  They probably started churning out Red Sox stuff as soon as Carpenter struck out.  Two of the biggest collectibles you could get from this past World Series are the press pins.  The Cardinals and Red Sox each had a pin made for members of the media.  Right now would not be the ideal time to purchase one as the World Series hasn’t even been over for 24 hours.  These are in high demand selling for $150.00 per pin.  I’d let some time pass before adding either one to your collection.  They’ll cool off.

Phillies vs. White Sox – Game 1 – 7/13/13

With Friday night’s game cancelled the decision to play a doubleheader was made for Saturday.  The Phillies ended up losing Game 1 5-4 in 11 innings, and about 45 minutes later Game 2 began.  The Phillies won Game 2 2-1 in 13 innings.  Throw in a rain delay into Game 1, and both games having extra innings, the Phillies almost played twelve hours of baseball.

Citizens Bank Park is really nice.  Everything is easy to get to and the food is very good.  I had a hot dog, soft pretzel, and lemonade.  I came out of the Majestic Clubhouse Store with a new shirt and three pins.  The Carlos Ruiz bobblehead was obtained before I even got into the stadium.

$10.00 for a Phillies yearbook and a FREE Carlos Ruiz bobblehead… yes please!  This was a stadium giveaway on 6/4/13 and I guess they had some extra.

Flashback Product of the Week: 2001 Fleer Red Sox 100th Anniversary Legacy

I think its safe to say that if your not a Red Sox fan, you won’t like this product.  Each box contains one jersey or autographed card, and collectors can also find an autographed baseball cap.  You can also find a collectible toy tractor trailer which in my opinion doesn’t really make sense to have.  This product covers the complete history of the Red Sox.

I’d really like to see a product like this be made for the Phillies.  That is one product that I would buy.  Philadelphia has one of the oldest teams in baseball, and they have a ton of history.  There are too many products dedicated to the Yankees and Red Sox.

PHOTOS: The 2010 National Sports Collectors Convention

The National is by far the greatest show of the year.  I saw a lot of people, opened a ton of packs, and participated in many of the wrapper redemption programs provided by the manufacturers.  I even had time to watch the Orioles take on the White Sox Friday night.  The marketing was much better this year, not only for The National, but for other companies too.  There were T-shirts, cups, and all sorts of promos flying around the Baltimore Convention Center.  Check out some of my photos.

This was one of the coolest artifacts on display at The National.  This is the bat Cap Anson used in 1897.  I had never seen anything of Anson’s before.

This has nothing to do with The National, but Pickles Pub was right next to the hotel I stayed at.  Every night the place was packed.

PHOTOS: Harrisburg Senators vs. Portland Sea Dogs

Last night I took a trip down to Harrisburg to see the Senators take on the Portland Sea Dogs.  The Senators are the AA affiliate of the Washington Nationals and the Sea Dogs are affiliated with the Red Sox.  This was the first time I had been to Metro Bank Park.  I attended a few Senators games many years ago, but that was well before they built this new stadium.  Parking was a little weird, and the food could have been better.  I really liked my seat because foul balls were coming my way all the time.  In the end, Harrisburg won 10-0.

I picked up three different team sets:

  • Eastern Division 2010 All-Star Set
  • Western Division 2010 All-Star Set
  • Harrisburg Senators 2010 Team Set – this one has Strasburg in it

As you can see, SpongeBob was at the game.  He should have pitched.  I hear he has a nasty “sinker” 🙂
