The Harrisburg Senators, Double-A of the Washington Nationals, is a regular stop for me when it comes to obtaining stadium giveaway bobbleheads. My first bobblehead giveaway of the year took place on May 4, 2019 – Star Wars Day! This has become a big deal all over the country for both major and minor league teams. Combing Star Wars with baseball is a fantastic idea.
Juan “Solo” Soto bobbleheads were a huge draw. This was the busiest Senators game I’d ever attended. A limit of 1,500 bobbleheads were given out. Arriving an hour before the gates opened was a good idea. Moments after getting in line, the crowd ended up going down the steps and wrapping around the side of the stadium. Unless they paid extra for a special ticket guaranteeing them a bobblehead, not everyone was able to get one.
Cheeseburger, fries, and Hershey’s chocolate ice-cream made for a good dinner. Lots of Star Wars characters were in attendance. All were encouraged to take pictures with the fans.
None of the names on the Senators starting lineup stood out to me. But one did for the Trenton Thunder, Double-A of the New York Yankees – Clint Frazier. Clint Frazier is one of the many injured players the Yankees have had this season. He’s down there right now doing some rehab, and is expected to make it back to the Yankees shortly.
Harrisburg won 6-5. The bobblehead turned out very well. Juan Soto is in that famous Han Solo pose. Instead of a blaster, he’s got a glove. Even the box got a lot of attention. It has graphics on each side. Way better than the standard white cardboard.
My next bobblehead giveaway game is on July 20, 2019. Back in Harrisburg to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
The odds of me surviving this are 3,720 to 1.
Life-size bobbleheads received a new paint job.

Design:
American Thunder is a new brand from Press Pass which replaces Ignite. Last year Ignite came jam-packed with sticker autographs, and by the looks of it American Thunder has them too. Perhaps this is why Press Pass only shared preview images of this product about a week before it came out. I remember Press Pass giving away T-shirts at the National that said “On Card Isn’t Hard”. Apparently its getting hard. Outside of the sticker autographs, everything else seems pretty standard.
Price:
Boxes are currently selling for $87.00.
“Hit” Quality:
American Thunder comes with one more “hit” than Ignite. Every box should have at least (1) autograph and (2) relics, plus a bunch of inserts.
I pulled the following:
Auto
Relics
Parallel
Inserts
Rookies
Overall:
Overall, I gotta give 2014 Press Pass American Thunder 2 U.S. flags out of 5 (1=poor & 5=perfect). The sticker autographs are what bring it down. Maybe there is something about this time of the year that’s making it difficult for them to get the signatures directly on the cards. It never seemed to be a problem though in the past.

They’re loud. They’re fast. And for seven consecutive years the sport of hydroplane racing had its very own set thanks to J&W Productions & Promotions.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with what a hydroplane is, its basically a very fast speedboat. Most of the engines come from the aviation industry, and these boats use the water mainly for lift rather than to stay afloat. They also use the water for propulsion and steering too. The best way to describe these beasts is to think of them as jet airplanes on water. Ken Warby currently holds the record for going the fastest in his hydroplane, Spirit of Australia. On October 8, 1978, Warby set the speed record at Blowering Dam, Australia clocking in at 318.75 mph. Its a record that continues to hold today. Hydroplane racing has many different circuits to follow. The real badass drivers can be found in the H1 Unlimited league, due to its fewer restrictions.
From 1991 to 1997, J&W Productions & Promotions issued an annual 25-card set. Series 1 started in ’91, Series 2 in ’92, and so on. In all there are 175 cards to the complete series, plus 16 Hall of Fame drivers, and 8 promotional cards. These were only available in set form, no packs or boxes.
