Flashback Product of the Week: 1991 Topps Stadium Club Super Bowl XXVI Set

Attendees to Super Bowl XXVI were greeted with a small cleared coated pack containing five 1991 Topps Stadium Club football cards.  At first glance these cards look identical to the ones you would pull from a standard pack.  But upon further inspection you’ll see an embossed Super Bowl XXVI logo in the upper right corner.  Topps reprinted 300 cards from their regular set and decided to create a nice little souvenir for the fans.  The 300 cards aren’t exactly the first 300 cards out of the 500 card 1991 Topps Stadium Club set either.  Topps jumped around.

1991 Topps Stadium Club football is known for a lot of things – great photography, star players, and for having one of Brett Favre’s most popular rookie cards.  Luckily for Favre collectors Topps picked his rookie as one of the cards to include within the Super Bowl XXVI promo set.  At the time these packs were distributed, Favre wasn’t on everyone’s radar.  In fact, he just finished his stint with the Falcons.  As the 90’s progressed, Favre’s stock began to rise along with the price of his rookies.  His Super Bowl XXVI embossed rookie is very desirable, especially examples that are in gem mint condition.  When these packs were distributed to fans, they would throw them in their pocket and the cards would easily get damaged.  If your in the market for one, I’d personally buy one that’s either certified or graded.  Many scammers have taken a regular Favre rookie and embossed it themselves.  All of these cards from the Super Bowl XXVI promo set hold a slight premium over the standard issued cards.  The Favre is by far the most valuable.

Sealed packs can still be purchased today for $10.00.  Expect to pay more if one of the key cards is visible.

Henry Hynoski Signing This Weekend At Aubrey Alexander Toyota

Tomorrow 3/10/12 Super Bowl XLVI Champion Henry Hynoski will be signing autographs at the Aubrey Alexander Toyota dealership in Selinsgrove, PA from 12pm to 3pm.  This is a great opportunity for those people that didn’t get to meet him last week at the Susquehanna Valley Mall.  If its anything like last weekend, I’m sure it will be packed.

Super Bowl XLVI Champ Henry Hynoski Signing

This afternoon New York Giants fullback Henry Hynoski was signing autographs at the Susquehanna Valley Mall.  The event was sponsored by the Susquehanna Valley Mall and ESPN 92.3FM.  Hynoski played for Southern Columbia High School, then went on to play for the University of Pittsburgh.  He recently won Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants.  Everyone could get (3) items signed free of charge.  The place was totally packed.  The line started outside of Bon-Ton and by the time I left the line was all the way back to Sears.  That’s a long line.  Luckily I got there early enough and didn’t have to wait too long.  They were also handing out miniature ESPN footballs and Pepsi products.  Hynoski was signing right outside of Schuylkill Valley Sports.  They were selling tons of Giants items you could get signed.  How convenient? 🙂

Henry Hynoski is one of those rookies from last year that doesn’t have a ton of cards.  As of right now, you can only find his cards in Plates & Patches and Playoff Contenders.  His Plates & Patches cards seem to be a lot more popular than the Playoff Contenders.

During Super Bowl XLVI Hynoski caught 2 passes for 19 yards, and recovered an Hakeem Nicks fumble in the third quarter.

“Pin-Up” of the Week: Super Bowl XLVI Host Committee Pin

I was really hoping that the 49ers would make it to the Super Bowl this year.  Instead it looks as if we’re going to have a repeat of the 2008 Super Bowl.  I hope the Giants win tomorrow because the Patriots have won it enough times.

Earlier this week I thought this pin was given out by the media.  I was completely wrong.  Instead it was given out by the Super Bowl Host Committee after last year’s game.  There are people on eBay trying to pass these off as the Super Bowl XLVI media pins but that’s not true.  One that was advertised as a Host Committee pin recently sold for $25.00.
