How To Spot A Fake Michael Jordan 86-87 Fleer Rookie

The Michael Jordan 1986-87 Fleer Rookie card is one of the most forged cards on today’s market.  Below are the ways that you can spot a fake.  Remember that the only way to be 100% sure its real is if you buy one that is graded and/or certified.

Above, the genuine logo shows the white of each of the bull’s eyes.  On the right eye on the fake below it is almost filled in.

The fake “Fleer Premier” logo above is a poor copy of the genuine logo below.

The above photo shows the small print dots filling in the white area of Jordan’s name, team and position on a fake.  The photo below shows the same area on a real copy, showing the clean white text.

  1. Is this the same way to check if it is a reprint as well for the fleer card

    Thanks

  2. Hi I just bought a Michael Jordan Fleer Rookie off Ebay.
I think its a fake ? Can you tell me if there should be a Blue line on the bottom of the Fleer Premier Logo Flag? Is there any way you can show me pictures of fake and real logos of the Fleer Premier?

    Thanks, Ronnie Soosoo

    • Hi Ronnie,

I was just reading your post about the “blue line on the bottom of the Fleer Logo flag”. I just bought a Jordan rookie w/ the same thing. Were you ever able to determine if yours was real or fake??

Thanks a million for your help.

    • i heard if it has a blue line on the flag its fake a reprint, sorry.

      • the blue line on the flag does NOT indicate a reprint at all. If you look at many of common players & stars of the 1986 fleer set, you will see there is a variation with the blue line.
The main points to look for are the quality of print on the back & front, the weight of the card (g)

  24. I owned a Michael Jordan Rookie Fleer. I find it in a sealed Fleer pack whit Patrick Hewing and I. Thomas from D. Pistons Rookies, I paid $25 for the pack in 1989. I posted on a Craig’s List to sell for $600.00 and I was told that it was a replica, I don’t understand how can it be a replica when I find it in a 1986/87 Fleer pack?

    • First who told you it was a replica? If it was a grading company send it off to a different grading company. Fleer can also make printing errors on their cards that could potentially let someone tell you its worthless. Hang on to it have it recertified/graded
